| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 28, 2005 330 ml bottle, bought at Selfridge’s, London. Black (= very dark brown) colour. Truly impressive large and thick brown head. Aroma of malts, oak, leather, coffee and dark chocolate. Flavour is overwhelmingly bitter from the roasted barley and hops, but also sweeter than regular Guinness. Elements of very strong coffee, hints of bitter chocolate. Bitterness lasts through the long aftertaste. Not for beginners. The crowd who think nitro draught Guinness is "sooo strong" should try this one! DewBrewer (268), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 27, 2005 33cL bottle. Pours a huge, lacy tan-colored head of large bubbles. It is dark brown/black and opaque. The aroma is bready and bitter, very similar to regular Guinness stout. The flavor is also similar to Guinness stout with a bit more sweetness and more alcohol, of course. The flavors are dark, roasty, creamy, and bitter. Excellent beer! Thanks Doug! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Jan 20, 2005 Updated: Oct 29, 2006Jan, 2005 Bottle from Beer Essentials, Horsham. Sweet & fruity - dark berries. Soft chocolate. Smooth. Strawberries & cream. Lacks the typical bitter roasty edge. In fact doesn’t taste like a Guinness, merely a stout with lots of sugar. It’s quite pleasing, but insubstantial. [3.3]
Oct, 2006 Bottle at Café Belge, Eastbourne. Wow! Not insubstantial today at all. A Guinness Foreign Extra Stout with Belgian yeast and candi sugar. Sweeter and softer than the regular FES, and with a spicy, yeastiness. I love it - I love the blend of dark chocolate burnt bitterness and soft yeasty sweetness. Do I love this more than the Nigerian Guinness? Hmmm. Probably not. But it would be fun to fo them side by side. [4.2]
