Bottle. Clear, pitch black color, very nice medium beige brown head. Smells fantastic, chocolate, coffee, caramel, butter scotch. Dry, astringent taste, heavy bitterness and a perceptible alcoholic taste. Caramel and bread in the aftertaste, but not as nice as the nose, anyway nice. Typical flat carbonation, nice thick texture.

330ml bottle, lots of occasions. A classical.
In short: roasty dry stout.
Pours quite dark with nice tan head. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Roasty, licorice, coffee nose. Medium to full body, average to soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste is roasty, coffee, some raisins and plums, licorice. Smooth, some dry and bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Maker: St. James’s Gate (Diageo), Dublin, Ireland ***
Beer: Guinness Special Stout (Belgian) (bottled, 330ml) ***
Style: Imperial Stout ***
ALC.VOL.: 8.0% ***
"Special version of bottled Guinness for Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Brewed in Ireland for Anthony Martin." ***
Colour: Jet black, impenetrable, with a big, frothy beige head. ***
Nose: Roasted malts, lactose, smokey bacon(!), hints of vanilla. ***
Texture: Medium to full body, oily. Modest carbonation. ***
Taste: Roasted malts, estery notes, yeast and lactose in the beginning. Smokey bacon towards the middle. Espresso. Finish is sour coffee, citrus, yeast. After taste of caramel malts, coffee. ***
Impressions: A world apart from the usual Guinness "Original Draught", this export, Imperial Stout version has much more depth and doesn’t rely on charcoal exclusively for effect. Eminently (and dangerously) drinkable at 8%.

I must admit I’m a bit biased by this one, as it was one of the first "good beers" I had, and has settled for me what a good foreign stout must be.
Roast barley aroma, chocolate, hints of coffee. Pitch black with smooth tan head. Taste of roast cereal, and pretty much like the aroma. Full bodied but not overwhelmingly so, drinkable. Thick.
One of the best around, in my humble opinion.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ben carbonata, corpo medio-leggero.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl bottle@home in pint glass@approx 10 degrees C. Pours pitch black with massive beige head with excellent retention. Nose of bread and sweet, dark fruit. Taste roasty, bready, sugary with a little chocolate and caramel. Not quite Christmas pudding as it lacks the fruitiness. Hardly any carbonation and the beautiful head just stays on and on. Heavy, sweet inbetween a Guinnness and a porter also in the malty aftertaste. Warming, but rather dull and one-dimensional compared to the excellent porters out there.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Drank it quite warm. A sweeter version of one of my favorite all-timers. It’s dark chocolate color, not as black, and more sugary. Some of the wheat/bread flavor is less pronounced. Lovely bitter finish. Highly drinkable and most enjoyable. Only criticism would be that it’s perhaps too smooth, too easy.

FTA. 33cl. There is nothing special about it. If you really miss the UK stout, and are stuck on the island - get this. Like 10 years ago there were nothing similar available in Estonia for example. Now there are 100s of alternative stouts. And If I want dry stout, I will get myself something else.
