Similar to the traditional Guinness, but this belgian variety lacks body. Aroma is nice. Bread, cereal and toast. Color is very dark with a good head. On palate, bitterness dominates, but here is where it becomes different. It felt watery and weak. The only distinguishable hints were toast, a little coffee and lots of hops. I’ve tried Guinness before and I love it, but this particular variety lacks the features that make this beer so distinguishable.

Olhão 18/7 2016. 33 cl bottle from Oriente Modelo Supermarket. Yellow label with the characteristic harp. Declarations of "Genuine Quality" and "Special Export". Makes you wonder why beers with a high ABV is often "Export Beers"? Are the Brewers afraid that people at home will actually get drunk? So they have to send the strong beer out of the country. Pours opaque dark brown with light beige head. Head is kind of dense but settles as flimsy thin layer of foam. Moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet with chocolate, coffee, roasted dark malts and a whiff of alcohol. Some more subdued bitter notes. Soft carbonation and thick creamy palate. Flavor is intensly sweet and a bit sugary followed by light bitterness. A quite heavy fellow which would fit in nicely on a could day in December. A bit misplaced in Portugal in 30 degrees.

Bottiglia.

Black colour, average head, slightly off-white, decent persistence, some lacing. Aroma has caramel malts, milk coffee and red fruits. Taste is on the sweet side with a slight hint of bitterness in the finish: buttery/milky sweetness, a light hint of roasted malts, slight red fruits, liquorice. Medium body, almost flat, decently creamy. Easy, and easily forgettable.

The beer looks perfect, like an example for every stout. The color of te beer is pitch black on the eye and a dark ruby red glow in the light. The beer is rather clear. On top of the beer there is a nice layer of rough almond colored foam. The smell of the beer is quite nice but a tiny bit mild. I smell some lovely biscuit-like malts, toasty and roasty. I love this roasted barley aroma. The beer has a little salty touch to it. The smell is that of the regular Guinness draught, with a bit more sweetness to it. The taste is nice. I taste some sweet fruity aromas and some nice roasted barley. The beer has a strong licorice taste. The roast flavor is a bit on the background in the taste. There is a nice savory touch to the beer. It is truly a lovely stout. Great.

Aromat średnio intensywny, przypomina kawę espresso z mlekiem, kawę latte i pianki marshmallow. W smaku półsłodkie, średnio wysycone, kawowe, karmelowe, delikatnie słodkie, bardzo gładkie. Goryczka lekko powyżej niskiej, palona, z popiołowym, tytoniowym afterteasem, dość rzadkie w odbiorze.
FES, który przypomina Milk Stouta w aromacie i Coffee Stouta w smaku :) Bardzo sesyjny pomimo wysokiego, nieźle ukrytego alkoholu.

Roasted malts, coffee, dark brown/black, medium body, law carbonation, dried fruits, roasted malts, body is not full enough for me and there is too much alcohol in evidence...good but practically a Guinness too strong and not elegant.

Stout pour with large lasting head. A: buttermilk, licorice note, sweet dark malts, vanilla, wood note. T: smokey note kicks in from offset. Bit oily mouthfeel. Nice and long development which starts with the sweetness from the malts, moves towards vanilla, smokey bacon, back to malts with fruity touch, mostly banana. Finish is bitter, rye, tar.
