5/IV/2012 - 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Klaas’ place - BB: XI/13 (2012-330)

Little cloudy red brown beer, small beige head, unstable, dissipates immediately, non adhesive. Aroma: overripe to rotten fruits, dried fruits, bit mouldy. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: very sweet sugary, some molasses, syrup, brown sugar, little mocha, liquorish and cinnamon. Aftertaste: very sweet sugary, rotten fruits, some mocha, dry ending, spices, star anise. This is pretty bad. I don’t know what they are doing at Gulden Spoor, but if they let someone else brew there, they better leave it to the guys from Verzetbrouwerij. Oh yeah, completely ridiculously overpriced. I’m not spending any more money on these guys from Hugel.

Bottle. Not a gusher! Clear brown, looks like coca-cola. Aroma of moderately spiced caramel. Taste is Christmas fruitcake.

75cl, as Gula, by Hugel (at Gulden Spoor), new exclusive brew Anno 2010, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, sweet and spicy, heavy, not balanced, hazy, rocky head, nice brew, yet expensive!

Huge, very dense & lacy stable cream head over dark foxy-brown beer. Very spicy nose, especially clove/allspice in evidence, but also coriander. Maltsyrup aroma. Sweet-spicy, clove, cinnamon, mint, brown candi sugar, treacle,... Sticky, syrupy, alcoholwarming. Despite that last, it is rather dangerous seen its treacherous drinkability. Not bad, but overspiced, and way too sweet for my taste.
