COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Very boozy and tasty. Kind of a middle brownish color. Big head. Pretty expensive as an import. Aftertaste of barnyard dough leather.

Bottle, 330 ml. Pours cloudy dark amber with a hint of ruby. Head is around a finger of off-white soapy foam, and doesn’t stick around too long. Exceptionally fruity on the nose with a ton of esters coming through at the forefront. Notes of orange, citrus, strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant, and watermelon are all readily apparent. Underneath the fruit salad caramel, alcohol and pungent yeast abound. As expected, very sweet on the tounge, with yet more fruits emerging in addition to those on the nose such as grapefruit, apple, lychee and perhaps banana, all resting above malty caramel and cereal undertones. Finish is long, sticky and sweet with a lot of cereal. Alcohol is of course readily detectable and burns quite fiercely. Carbonation is somewhat lively, which adds an appropriate extra bite to the experience. Body is full and smooth textured otherwise, making for a most pleasant mouth feel overall. Even more one-dimensional and less nuanced than it’s regular counterpart, though most impressive for the firewater that it is.

0,33 l bottle, best before 21/01/15. Absolutely clear, pale amber with tan creamy head. Weak aroma of dried dark fruits and honey. Rich yeasty, fruity taste of dried plums, cherries, honey and candy sugar. Medium sweetness. Quickly overpowered by a dominant warming, alcoholic taste. Still pleasant. Medium body, lively carbonation. Slightly bitter, alcoholic finish. Overall a delicate beer!

pours 5’’ of foam with 1" of beer, this could take awhile. Color is an orangeish amber with a thick lacing head. Smells of fruit brown sugar and booze. Taste of dark fruit and booze. Not as good as Gulden Draak but still good.

The flavor of this one was a lot more subtle then that of other Quads that I have had. The yeasty maltiness was upfront, but some of the fruity characteristics seems to be lost in the sweetness that is present. The sweetness of the beer is not overpowering, it plays really well with the malt and yeast flavors that are present. The bitterness of the alcohol also does a nice job of cutting down the sweetness of the beer. It helps it all blend together for a decent and more easy drinking quad.
