3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Brugge beer festival 2014, Belgium. An amber coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Sweet, fruity, Belgian aroma. Tastes really sweet, yeasty, caramel, fruity. Not bad but way over the top on the sweetness scale.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From my backlog. Coppery colour with a light tan head with good lasting and moderate lacing. Aroma has notes of belgian yeast, very spiced, with notes of caramel, toffee and toasted malts. Flavor is sweet at the beginning with notes of caramel, toasted malts and some red fruits, some wooden notes are also present, moderate bready. The final is slightly bittery with notes of caramel and moderate alcoholic sensation.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Chimay glass. Golden amber. Has some more interesting fruity tones...banana, caramel, and some oak? Alcohol content is present.. But mixes in well. Would recommend if a friend hasn’t had it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a slightly murky orange/amber with large, puffy off-white head. Aroma is white grape, apple, Belgian yeast, butter and toast. Flavour is sweetish and modestly funky with white grape, apple/pear, toasty bread and spice. Not as boozy as I would have expected. Good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear amber with a fluffy light tan head.
Aroma: Rich and sweet, fairly fruity, some dark dried fruits, light butterscotch, an odd minty/herbal/familiar-but-can’t-place-it aroma (vanilla??, perfumed???), quite malty, toast crust...almost dark rye bread as it warms, light bubble gum esters, slightly bright, a little warm spice.
Palate: Medium+ body, full, gentle effervescence.
Flav.: Woodsy, quite sweet, malty and rich, slightly bright fruitiness, some minty herbals, that same note that I can’t put my finger on, dark dried fruits, a bit of alcohol; sweet with minimal bitterness and a long, boozy, sweet, fruity and richly malty finish.
Fairly big and complex. Good call, LICK-BO.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
An aroma of reisling wine, apple, hay and bitter oak. Golden and foamy appearance with thin white lace. Taste starts sweet and sour, like a granny smith apple, and fades into a relatively bitter grapefruit rind with some alcohol burn. Palate is perfect, fizzy, not too thin, not too thick. Overall, very nice. A little unbalanced with the bittering on the end.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
From bottle. Very bubbly. Dark golden amber. Thick head on pour transitions into nice layer of lingering foam. Nose is predominantly Belgian candi sugar. Tastes of candied fruit, banana, clove. Quintessential Belgian quad sweetness with an added bite of alcohol on the end that slightly bitters it, rather than further sweetens.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Copper/amber colour, hazy and leaves a nice frothy white head with some lacing. Fairly expressive aroma, very bread like aroma and some esters and dried fruit notes and shows sweet boozy esters as well. On the palate it is rich with integrated flavours and a boozy finish. I find this is made in a more lightly malted style lightly spiced styles which showcases those estery and yeasty notes

1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottled. Full 33cl sample (however drain poor after say a third of it ). The aroma is quite weak for such a strong beer, has raisin, alcohol/green apple. Hazy, orange-red coloured beer with an off-white, rather big head. The taste is very sweet, has raisin, caramel, prunes and a strong alcoholic afterburn accompanied with some exotic metals. Very unbalanced. Though it got a little better after the first sips, I couldn’t finish it. I am really puzzled by the commercial description ’smooth and subtle sweet taste’. Nowhere near.
