COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Hazy amber color, almost orange, big brownish head. Full body, soft carbonation. Aroma is malts, caramel, spices, yeast. No signs of alcohol. Medium sweet taste.

From a 330ml bottle on 16/3/2014. Pours a cloudy deep golden with a big head that disappears quickly. The aroma is strong with Belgian yeast, lots of citrus and stone fruit, honey and spices. It’s a very sweet one up front, fruit, honey and marmalade prominent. This is nicely balanced yeast, spice and a quite tart, bitter finish. The palate is quite syrupy. A carbonation is a little excessive, which is my only complaint. All up this really good and one of the best Belgian quads I’ve had to date.

Tap. Clear copper with a thin off white head. Aromas of spice, clove, light banana, citrus and caramel. Flavor is the same with some warmth at the end. Medium to full bodied

It pours amber with gold highlights; the head is off-white and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: alcohol, rum, raisins, prunes, toffee, and anise. The taste is medium sweet that finishes lightly bitter; the aroma notes carry through into the taste. The palate is medium bodied, slick, slightly sticky, has light carbonation, and a medium finish. Overall, not that vastly different from the regular Gulden Draak - a slight improvement.

Pours a medium orange cloudy Carmel. Big light eggshell head that lingers. Aroma is immediate yeasty dough with some faint light fruit in the background. Alcohol smell is slightly apparent. Nothing spectacular. Mouthfeel is light yet satisfying with a soft but not unlively carbonation. The sweetness of yeasty light fruit is immediate and much stronger than the aroma lets on. Apples both sweet and tart and apricot for sure. The yeast is smooth and pleasant. It’s actually making me a bit hungry. The immediate hit of fruit and yeast upfront gives way to a slight apple aftertaste that fades away. Drinking this one day after the hops of Lost Abbey Gift of the Magi had it’s way with my taste buds. Highly refreshing and makes me look forward to spring and summer. I’m not sure that I expected something this light in a quadruple but I’m enjoying this a lot.

Small bottle from Legacy Liquor in Vancouver. A medium amber beer with a light colored head. Not nearly as dark as my usual quad, which is Bernardus. Sweet and fruity on the nose. Tastes of malts and caramel, over-ripe, candied fruits. Heady stuff! 4.0.

Pours a hazy orange yellow color with a very lively, highly carbonated white head. Aroma is white wine, white raisins, bready malt, orange citrus, some spice, maybe coriander, maybe a very sweet plum, and of course some alcoholic esters. Taste is explosive on the tongue due to the carbonation and boozy burn. Starts with bright citrus, white wine again, the coriander (?) spice again, then turns to a huge malt body to smooth it out, very bready, no caramel however which is surprising for such a malt presence. Overall very very good beer, just as drinkable as the regular Gulden Draak, very glad to have purchased a 4-pack

Light copper, clear, off-white head. Bready malt with some caramel sweetness, fruity notes of pear and plum, earthy spice and a little leather. Warming alcohol a tad hot. On the sweet side overall.
