Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Liquid candy, with a kick. Startlingly sweet aroma and a brown shugga/caramel taste. Iím a little torn on rating this, as I admire it for what it is, a pretty unique take on the quadrupel, but really could never drink more than one very occasionally. Kind of like someone at the brewery said, íHey, letís just dump a lot of this confectioners sugar in here and see what happens. How far is too far anyway?í Letís just say itís a little over the top on the sweet end... or a lot over. A dessert beer.

The beer pours a beautiful thick layer of foam. The foam has a beautiful almond color, really nice. The beer has a beautiful color. The color of the beer is beautiful. Amer/orange-red, little cloudy. Little gas bubbles are rising to the top. The smell is beautiful. There is a little roast aroma. There is also a alcohol aroma, and almonds. Very nice smell. The taste is beautiful as well. There is this same hint of almond. I can also taste a smokey wood fire taste. Really nice and unique. There is a nice sourness and a alcohol taste, with luckily isnít to strong. The beer is very good and definitely worth a try.

A great and fantastic beer! In style quadruple there are bad; brutal (trappist Rochefort pannepot). There are also well made beers, of a very high quality but not to the level of arribel trappist Rochefort 10. This is one. A very good beer with a very competitive price, you can always Tasting.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2015 Bottle, medium stable and a little dense bubbly head, very lightly hazy deep orange to red color, yeasty aroma with just a funky hint ans a metalic note, fruity, sourdough bread and strawberry jam flavor, medium lingering sourness, mellow strawberry aftertaste, very nicely balanced and surprisingly light for the ABV. Light for the style and and a really good brew.

Bottle sample. Clear golden with big bubbly off-white head. The aroma has some fruitiness (peach, banana), yeasty with some graininess and notes of alcohol. Quite alcoholic flavor, sugary with notes of caramel and raisin, a bit yeasty. Soft carbonation, medium-bodied. Very alcoholic, quite hard to drink.

Appearance was clear deep gold with creamy lasting off white 1 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are deep fruits, caramel, brown sugar, honey and estery yeasts. Taste are honey, prune, fig, date upfront then toffee, honey malt mid sip. The backend was slightly warming Zin-like wine fruity finish. Palate was creamy smooth beautiful CO2 with full body, then a lasting fruity, malty wonderful finish. Overall, a wonderful fruity brew, try it.
