COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Amber-coppper color pour. Nice cotton head. Cool bottle. Nice, typical, belgian nose. Amazing complexity off the first sip. A slight coppery, unflattering "dirty penny" finish off the first sip, but not overwhelming. Overall, a great first impression. Excellent lacing. Continues to invite you in. Very drinkable. Very happy with this one. Highly recommended.

330ml bottle from Archive. Bright golden amber colour with a huge head of light brown foam. Spiced fruit in the aroma and the flavour is quite good, smooth in the mouth.

In a Rochefort goblet. Medium amber with a medium to small beige head that lingers and leaves some spotty lacing. The aroma is mostly rum-raisin, with some fruity esters, alcohol, and mild phenol. Smells a lot darker than it is. The taste is similar to the aroma, lending a lot of the raisiny character, and mellow esters. The finish is almost as sweet as the beginning, with some alcohol warming and rummy flavors that linger after it dries out. A little too sweet for my tastes, but very respectable.

I was wondering if I was ever going to come across this beer. Found a bottle at Sun Devil in Tempe. The squat little 33cl bottle pours with a clear coppery amber sort of body that supports a two minute long tan head. The aroma offers up big sweet apples, plums, blueberries and then boozy heat at the end of the draw. The taste begins in a similar fashion with ripe red apples, brown sugar covered plum meat, sweet cranberry and then some modest boozy heat to warm things up a tad. Nice sipper that seems it will age gracefully.

Shared a 33cl bottle from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a golden amber colour with a white head that disappears during the tasting. Aroma is fruity, malt, hops and alcohol. Medium carbonation and almost full body. Flavour is bitter at start turning rapidly to a well balanced complex mixture sweet and bitter. Overall, a nice beer but with too much alcohol.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy red/orange, matching the red on the label with a white fluffy nice head. Aroma: boozy with a spicy sweetness and a bit earthy. Taste: the first that hits you is the sweet ripe fruits and leave a crisp alcohol taste without being unpleasant. The finish leave you with toffee notes and a hint of dried pineapple.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. A dark hazy amber-brown beer that pours with a large foamy head. It has very sweet spicy candy sugar and toffee notes, sweet earthy and zesty spice, pineapple and a creamy warming finish. Superb!

Had on tap. Pours a clear darkish copper with a tiny off-white head. Aroma of plum, caramel and some other dark fruits. A Belgian yeasty element is thrown in there as well typical of the style. The flavor is quite fruity with plum, grape, and apple. A bit on the sweet and boozy side with some decent warmth from the alcohol. A full mouthfeel with a sticky finish. Overall, a decent quad but different than other ones I have had. OK but I’m not sure I will revisit this one.
