COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Bottle pours opaque amber with two finger light tan head. Peach, banana, golden raisins, bread, caramel, cloves. Moderately sweet, mild/moderate bitterness, a hint of sour. Medium, lively body. Alcohol completely hidden. An excellent quad.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, deep golden to acolour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Caramel-malt with subtle fruity notes in the aroma, accompanied by alcohol and Belgian yeasty spice. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a tame carbonation. Sugary cara-malty base with shy fruity notes and Brandy-like alcoholic strength; sweet malty and alcoholic finish with a very restrained level of bitterness. Not my cup of tea. 27.X.12

At Fork. Not over complex but very drinkable for the strength. Fruity flavors and not too boozy. Thinner body than some Abts. Serving: Tap

330mL bottle, pours a hazy amber with a voluminous off-white head that lingers a long time. Nose of overripe fruits, hazelnut, Belgian yeast, and candied sugar. Flavour brings out very rich notes of overripe fruits and hazelnut, which dominate and overwhelm the palate in robustness. There is some dark fruits, brown sugar and toffee further back which round off the flavour profile very nicely. Very high, lively carbonation which works well for the style, not detracting from the complexity. Not as sweet as regular Gulden Draak, though not as malty or robust. Excellent take on a classic.

Draft in a 10 oz. glass. On 11-14-2012 @ When Pigs Fly. Color is hazy brown. Pleasant nose of plums and toffee. Taste of toffee and hazelnut up front. Malt, brown sugar, dark fruit, spices, and a large alcohol kick on the finish. Texture has lively carbonation that is smooth and very well refined. Good flavors but rather boozy.

33 cl bottle at the beer bar inside NK Saluhall, lowest level of the NK building in Stockholm. Very nice place.
Clear amber to copper color, off-white to yellow head. Sweet, malty, fruity, cheese, alcohol scent. Sweet, spicy, alcohol taste. Warming alcohol. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness. A bit metallic, mainly sweet and fruity aftertaste.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear copper color with large frothy head that dissipates quickly. Lots of carbonation. Aromas of caramel. apples, spice, and yeast. Flavors of caramelized banana, malts, yeast, and resin, with just a touch of caramel and a bit of a metallic finish. Alcohol is right up front and hot. Not as good as I remember...
