COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Bottled. Pours hazy and deep amber with small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, yeast and fruity notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and with alcohol notes. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft CO2. A plain and quite boring Abt. ★★★

Bottle, this ale had a clear (if you didn’t pour in the sediment) red-orange pour and made a foamy faint white and off-white head that was determined not to go away, the center of the glass had a lively, turbulent stream of bubbles that made a mound on top of the beer and kept a cover on top, it left spots, rings and sheets of bubbly lacing on the sides of the glass, the bottle had a ring of dark brown sediment on the bottom, this ale had aromas of alcohol esters - orange and melon like fruit, faint apple, fermented fruit in the background, yeast, faint malt, bread, light spice and faint floral scents, it had flavors of pale malt, bread, orange, melon and apple like fruit esters, fruit and bread sweetness, the finish had a light bitterness with a little pepper and a touch of alcohol warmth, the mouth feel was light and pretty creamy, it had lively carbonation on the tongue, I bought a four pack a year ago and tried a bottle throughout the year, I think letting this ale sit a year worked out the best, it calmed the alcohol a bit, also, sampled this ale in different glasses, I thought the trappist was better than the tulip glass, this was a nice drink.

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting head. Nose shows raisins, golden syrup, dark rum, dried figs and confectionery. Similarly rich flavours. Bready malt, brown sugar, dried fruit and a bit of soft booze. Too much carbonation. Pretty damn good.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a hazy, copper orange appearance with a fluffy, light brown head and a ton of carbonation. Candy sugar, brown sugar, plum, grape fruity, caramel, toffee, spritzy aroma. Strong but fairly soft carbonation. Somewhat citrusy, dark fruity, fig, light leather, caramel, candy sugar flavor that isn’t too overly sweet. Not a bad Quadrupel.
