COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Huge thanks to ogivlado for sharing this with me and luttonm at the Magic Beer Room!
Poured a shiny full amber-orange body with a medium sized beige head that was relatively lasting. Alcohol, strong alcohol and strong dust in the aroma, with some peachy maltiness and orange rind. Smells like near-disaster and yet interesting for me (I don’t like a strong alcohol presence in a beer). Sweet taste, caramel, light fruitiness, almost balanced though a bit on the sweet side, very very light notes of lemon, alcohol only underneath it all and not as prominent as it first seemed. Full bodied, not bad really, would have it again.

Bouteille 330 ml. Robe orange, reflets auburn. Collet mousseux, qui disparaît rapidement. Arôme: malt, caramel, alcool. Goût: malt et alcool. Finale fruitée. Très sucrée, mais relativement équilibrée malgré tout. Bonne rondeux en bouche. L’alcool fait vite sentir sa présence. Bon digestif.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Copper pour with a tall, fluffy white head. Aroma is sweet caramel, ripened dark fruit, yeast notes and booze. Taste is sugary and sweet with lots of caramel, fermented fruit, booze, sweet malt and hints of brown sugar. Body is medium-full and slightly chewy with a strong dense carbonation and lots of stickiness. The warmth is slightly moderate but noticeable. Ends with more sweet malt notes, ripened fruits, yeast notes, caramel, and light booze. Nice Belgian Strong!

A tulip glass as The Yard House in Hallendale, FL. An amber beer that wears a layer of attractive beige foam. Berries and complex malts in the aroma with yeast. Those malts and the alcohol bring lots of flavor at the beginning. This is very sweet and that with the alcohol make this decadent. Complex fruit flavors from the yeast plus banana. I had this mid June in south Florida but it would be better in colder climes. Still, it is tasty and intetesting.

Whole Foods, Bowery ($6): Pours reddish with a whitish head. Aroma is dark fruitiness, yeast, and a hint of hops and booze. Taste is pretty sweet. This tastes closer to a quad than the reviews would lead one to believe. It is also actually rather easy to drink. Nevertheless, there is some tingle and alcohol in the finish, which is almost expected to happen in a quad. Not too sweet either. Not bad. I am surprised at how quickly I downed this.
