The original Gulden Draak is my favorite beer, being the only one to score a 5 out of 5 rating. Therefore I was excited to try this one. Hazy orange/copper colored beer with a frothy, slightly off-white head. Aromas of biscuit, candy sugar, and some toffee. Tastes of toffee, caramel, Belgian candy sugar, and hints of sweet dough. An orange zest is also mixed in. Sweet, semi fruity finish. Cloyingly sweet. Not as smooth as the original. While this is still a quality beer it pales in comparison to the balance and flavor of the original.

06/08 A 0.33 l bottle, great thanks ogivlado for sharing! It poured clear copper body with medium sized yellow head. Caramel, some alcohol and orange and herbal hops. Flavor was lightly alcoholic, sweetish with fine fruits, caramel and toffee. Quite full bodied, although not very complex, with long warming and ripe fruit finish. Fine, not unbalanced as expected, as taught by a number of such "experiments", although lacks all the complexity of a quadruple. Pleasant, but a step down from the regular one, but I remember that one used to be too alcoholic as well.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a copper color with a sweet malt and alcohol aroma. Taste is heavy caramel, mixed with dark malt. You can taste the 10% alcohol in this beer with every swallow. A grand beer with some complexity. Overall a good beer for the style.
