COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

330 mL bottle. (bb 02/09/2015). amber brown with a small, persistent, beige head. Nice lacing. The aroma is sharp and fairly typical for a quad. The flavour is big, boozy and bready. More malty and less fruity than most. quite complex near the end without any particularly distinctive flavours. Very well constructed.

Ambré foncé avec une petite mousse beige. L’arôme du caramel, un peu du fruits noir, du caramel, et du sucre brun. Le goût est complex, avec les saveurs qui sont présent dans l’arôme.

Single from the LCBO. Pours a slight hazy golden-amber colour with a warm foamy cap, great retention and some soapy lacing. Fruity nose of malt with mild burnt caramel. Real smooth mouthfeel with just a little warming in the gut. Yeast aromas do eventually come out well-blended with some hints of grassy hops. Malty base for the taste with caramel and fruitiness, but some decent hops balanced things. Notes of burnt caramel. Gets cloudy by the end. A nice quadrupel overall, that goes down smoothly. Just nothing to wild.

Can’t believe this beer is 10.5 per cent alcohol. You can not even smell let alone taste alcohol in it. Amazing. Very smooth for that high of alcohol. Was very surprised by color it had. It was orange, like it had grapefruit in it, but it didn’t. Head also suprised me, it was massive and it had above average life span. Aroma is fruity, hoppy; reminds me of herbs and woods, with a very good malty background. Body is medium to strong, very warm finish. Excellent alcohol masking. Taste is roasted fruits, sugar, smooth licorice.

Copper color body. Head is average sized, off-white, long lasting. Aroma is fruity, hoppy; remimds me of herbs and woods, with a very good malty background. Body is medium to strong, very warm finish. Excellent alcohol masking. Taste is roasted fruits, sugar, smooth licorice.

Pours an amber copper color. Big aroma of bready malts, brown sugar, and fruits. Taste is quite sweet and the alcohol is well hidden.

Bottle: Poured a orange brown with a huge fluffy lacing off white head. Aroma is sweet malt and light veggie. Taste was a strong fruit and caramel malt, with lots of alcohol burn. Finish is sticky and a bit metallic.
