Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Nagyon fincsi karamellás, fűszeres illat. Sötét borostyán színű, tiszta, átlátszó nedű. Az első korty lenyűgöző. Fűszeres, komlós, karamellás, enyhén kesernyés íz. Gyümölcsösség csak nagyon nagyon enyhén érezhető. Gyenge, de tartós utóíz. Nagyon testes, egy kisüvegessel jóllakik az ember. Érezni a 10,5 százalékot.

0.33l bottle. Aroma of carameled fruits. Nice orange colour with white head. Intensive taste of malts. Thick body with medium carbonation and bittersweet finish. Better than original Gulden Draak.

Bottle, 330ml at Le Ch’timi, Nancy, France. Dark amber with white head. This was a big, sweet, fruity beer with a big dose of fruity alcohol, fiery and quite heavy. Barley wine type beer, baked banana and a mixture of spruce. Cor blimey.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Ghent. Rusty orange, hazy and with a medium to large white foam head. Nose is very sweet, caramel, toffee, sherberty orange, barley sugar, burnt caramel, slight grass and herbal. Taste is big sweet, orange citrus, boiled sweet/candy, spice, caramel, barley sugar sweets, cereal grains, slight hop bitterness. Like a big spicy sticky barley wine and shading into ’too cloying’ and sweet to me. On the finish its that herbal, grass and slight soapiness.

I LIKE !

Hazy dark amber, big froth head but not long. Sweet malt, caramel aroma. Medium to high sweet, almost no bitterness, a little spicy and yeast notes. Full body, slick or sticky texture, not very long, a bit abrupt finish.

Känguruh pub Vienna, 0,33l bottle. Fruit, malt, sweet aroma, amber color with a white 3 finger head. Very rich, malt, hop, honey, carmel and fruity taste. Stays on a tongue leaving sweet aftertaste with some bitterness in it. Alcohol well hidden, but it is obvious it’s a strong beer.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2016 Surprisingly clear amber pour, which I haven’t seen before in a quad. Sparkling carbonation with a creamy off white head and delicious sweet fruity & spicy aromas. Smells great! The flavor is bitter right up front, with a strong & sweet rum & brandy flavored alcohol presence in a full and smooth body. Overall, a delicious & strong alcohol forward quad.
