Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Donker veel graan, bijna boterham te proeven, goed bier voor donkere dagen.

33 cl bottle at home. Comes in a plastic sleeve so you can’t see it pour which is annoying, and results in a cloudy muddy light-brown beer with a small, tight, tan head. Aroma is malt and caramel with some booze. Taste is slightly sweet and has a lot of bitterness. A very malt-driven beer, with more caramel and booze. Rich mouthfeel, and despite it’s strength quite drinkable.

Guldeen Draak is a very tasty brown beer. It’s bitter and very strog (10,5%), wich is good.

Uitgeschonken in nieuwe stijl Gulden Draak, drakenei glas.

Bottle from Beergium. Amber with a white, fluffy head. Aroma is sweet with apricot and caramel. Taste is sweet with caramel malt, throat pastil/cough pastil, faint herbal bitterness, spicy. Medium to full body, high carbonation, dry.

This poured a murky light brown with a beige head. Aroma was of dark fruit, candy sugar. Flavor similar, booze hidden well, but overly sweet Belgian for the most part.

8 oz. on tap. Opaque, turbid orange-brown with a lasting ring of cream. Nose is pear liqueur sauteed in brown sugar and rum. Taste is similarly boozy with added notes of papaya, bubblegum, resin and spicy dry yeast. Medium body is well balanced with a dry finish. A little too fizzy and slightly hot with the abv but overall not bad.

Pours a nice dark amber with persistent beige head. Aroma of caramel, nuts and yeast. Taste is quite sour and less sweet than I expected. Lively carbonation, medium body.

Hazy with huge white head. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, some peaches and sponge cake. Tastes sweet, malty and a bit fruity. Sponge cake also in taste. High carbonation. Complex and warming beer.
