Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Poured from the bottle from tavour. Nice thick head. Aroma is fantastic for a quad. The alcohol level is a bit hard hitting.... Flavor is also fantastic.

My first Quadruple and it is a warming smooth heavy beer where the malt has a strong accent. It is sweet and full. This surely grows on you. It is like a sweet wine, that warms from within. A mellow feeling comes up!. A legendary beer.

Smuggled back through customs from Taiwan. Into a chalice at cellar temperature. Misty, burnished chestnut body with fine carbonation and a a loose, slowly waning off-white foam. Spiced rum, treacle, plum grappa, cloves, prunes in syrup and raisins on the nose with a chewy, stewed tomato, umami backdrop that makes it interesting. Rather rusty on the palate with ample tannins and a rusty linger. Sweet, buttery caramel start with a light touch of nutty praline. Dark stone fruit in back with a grape-skin astringency. Slight towards spice. Alcohol is evident but aides rather than hinders. Frothy, sugary viscosity. Gammy linger of fruit sugars. A few years to meld I’m guessing. Nose offers so much. Disappointing haul! (33cL, no date stamp, Carrefour, Taipei, Taiwan)

Pours a thick three-finger cream head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Almost clear amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Malty, dark fruit nose and flavor is dark fruit, brown sugar and Belgian yeast. Higher ABV is hidden. Another excellent brew from Van Steenberge. $6.99 for a 330ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, MA.

Not my favorite quad, but really good. Cloudy dark-golden pour with lasting, clingy white foam. Aroma is amazing - honey and ripe fruit with slight alcohol. Flavor is great, with malty sweetness, banana, and yeast. Finish is fairly clean, with lingering yeast and sweet raisin. Not sure why I’ve passed this by so many times.

From elcervecero. In Tongerlo glass. Playing Bit Evolution. Good, but I prefer the normal one. In This one alcohol is a bit more noticeable and taste is more like in a strong tripel

Taste: crisp yeast bread, spiced, rich malty mouth feel. Unfiltered and Amber in color. Semi sweet bready spice nose. Medium body, almost full. Tall sticky foamed head with some lace. A fresh complex celebratory of a Belgian Quad

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2015 High fermentation with the secondary fermentation, so very special liquid, but for the quadruple somehow simple. Maybe exactly that is what is good. Red amber with lacing white beige head. Malty, highly carbonated, caramel, syrupy, belgian hops. typical winter beer.
