Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

I prefer it’s brother, the regular one. This one is quite malty and not as well balanced in flavor. Quite boozy actually. Too much carbonation too. Lacks flavor body.

Bottle. Lidl. Amber colour. Light haze. Good, foamy, lasting, off white head. Nose has ripe pear. Caramel. Raisins. Sweet and nutty. Prunes and dates, and the like. Smells great. Taste is sticky, vine fruit sweet. Some nutty dryness. Decent mouthfeel. Soft and foamy. Drinks well under the ABV. Some light bitterness on the finish. Sticky, fruity sweetness throughout. Factor in the price, and this is a belter.

Bottle. Color goldbrown. Nice head. Taste sweet, yeast, alcohol. Pretty much co2. A bit flat taste for a quadrupel. Overall a nice beer to drink once in a while.

Bottle 0.33L. Clear copper body with a large, creamy, off-white head, fully lasting with nice lacing; high density of small bubbles. Moderate malty (caramel) and light-to-moderate hoppy (herbal) aroma with notes of fruits, spices and alcohol. Moderate-to-heavy sweet and moderate bitter flavour. Light-to-medium body with watery-to-oily texture; average carbonation; moderate-to-heavy alcoholic warming in the finish that slightly ruins the overall impression.

330’lml: In a Chimay goblet). Good ass shit . I got this in a gift pack at lidle. Nose suggested syrup, peach , raw booze , dark chocolate. A nice boost here , very syrupy and cumbersome on the palate. Not fucken bad .

Nagyon fincsi karamellás, fűszeres illat. Sötét borostyán színű, tiszta, átlátszó nedű. Az első korty lenyűgöző. Fűszeres, komlós, karamellás, enyhén kesernyés íz. Gyümölcsösség csak nagyon nagyon enyhén érezhető. Gyenge, de tartós utóíz. Nagyon testes, egy kisüvegessel jóllakik az ember. Érezni a 10,5 százalékot.

0.33l bottle. Aroma of carameled fruits. Nice orange colour with white head. Intensive taste of malts. Thick body with medium carbonation and bittersweet finish. Better than original Gulden Draak.

Bottle, 330ml at Le Ch’timi, Nancy, France. Dark amber with white head. This was a big, sweet, fruity beer with a big dose of fruity alcohol, fiery and quite heavy. Barley wine type beer, baked banana and a mixture of spruce. Cor blimey.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Ghent. Rusty orange, hazy and with a medium to large white foam head. Nose is very sweet, caramel, toffee, sherberty orange, barley sugar, burnt caramel, slight grass and herbal. Taste is big sweet, orange citrus, boiled sweet/candy, spice, caramel, barley sugar sweets, cereal grains, slight hop bitterness. Like a big spicy sticky barley wine and shading into ’too cloying’ and sweet to me. On the finish its that herbal, grass and slight soapiness.
