Gulden Draak, lonely at the top for 25 years, now gets company
The birthday present: Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, an enrichment of the Gulden Draak range.
An ode to the past and to the city of (9000) GHENT The Gulden Draak is named after the gilded statue on top of the belltower of Ghent. Such eminent symbol, that has been standing firm for over 6 centuries, deserves equally grand beers. The unsurpassed Gulden Draak as dark tripel of 10,5% alcohol gets, after 25 years of growing success, quite an addition, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

All features of the Gulden Draak The extremely rich and complex taste sensation and the stable beer head can also be found in the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple. The sweet caramel touches, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak.

With addition of extra malt The new recipe, on basis of 3 different kinds of malt added in a volume of 4 times the content in lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple with a deep golden amber colour and a fruity scent. Together with the smooth and subtle sweet taste ensures this a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

In line with the traditions of Brewery Van Steenberge Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge is the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple a beer of high fermentation with secondary fermentation. A wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which also contributes to the grandiose taste.

Flawless. Head retention is amazing. Aromas of sweet fruits and flowers. Taste is complex and the yeast definitely stands out and gives off very fruity flavors. Love this beer!

The flavor of this one was a lot more subtle then that of other Quads that I have had. The yeasty maltiness was upfront, but some of the fruity characteristics seems to be lost in the sweetness that is present. The sweetness of the beer is not overpowering, it plays really well with the malt and yeast flavors that are present. The bitterness of the alcohol also does a nice job of cutting down the sweetness of the beer. It helps it all blend together for a decent and more easy drinking quad.

Pours crystal clear amber and light tight carbonation and sticky thick lacing. Complex aroma melds honey, caramel, cotton candy, and apples. Flavor is caramel apple, and while sweet, it does not reach cloying. Amazing.

Wat is diet een goed bier! Behoort tot de beste ter wereld. Vind hem beter dan de st bernardus 12 en Westvleteren. Hoor dit vaker, is erg mooi in balans zeker een aanrader met foodpairing!!!!

Iím a big fan of Belgian beers in general, especially the Triple and Quadruple styles, so Gulden Draak 9000 is right up my alley. It pours a lovely coppery amber with just a slight haze and virtually no head. There is a little bit of web-like lacing left in the glass as you drink it. The aroma combines the usual Belgian fruit, spice, and sweetness with a hint of alcohol. The flavor matches up with the aroma. Itís sweet without being overly sugary. Itís spicy to the "just right" level. Itís fruity without tasting like a fruit beer. In short, itís everything I look for in the Quad style, and nothing I dislike. Hops bitterness is minimal in this one. Even at 10% ABV, the warming note of the alcohol is not intense or uncomfortable. The finish is fruity and sweet, and very pleasant overall.

This is one of my all time favourites. Not just another Belgian brown beer, but with a typical taste. Great to slowly drink on a winter evening.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2015 High fermentation with the secondary fermentation, so very special liquid, but for the quadruple somehow simple. Maybe exactly that is what is good. Red amber with lacing white beige head. Malty, highly carbonated, caramel, syrupy, belgian hops. typical winter beer.

Bottle from BlackHearts&Sparrows. Massive taste. Aroma of caramel, bread, orange, Taste is sweet, with sour notes, very long length. Palate is creamy, and full bodied. Orange, with a frothy head.
