COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewmaster, Jef Versele, crafted this exclusive Gulden Draak Brewmasters Edition as a tribute to his grandfather Jozef Van Steenberge and the 230th birthday of the brewery. His inspiration came from his numerous trips to the United States and his deepest respect for the craft beer culture. This exclusive Gulden Draak combines the technology and the craftsmenship of the traditional brewing process. By letting the beer mature on whiskey barrels it gives it a distinctive and gental finish that you have never tasted before.

Bottle from Brewer’s Haven Boise... Paid $13ish... Pours a hazy dark yellow/orange... looks like peach or apricot nectar... not very pleasing... the head is off white and sticks around for quite a while... Not nearly as dark as the standard Gulden Draak. The nose is pretty interesting.. spicy/fruity... apricot and lite clove with a dusting of whiskey and vanilla.. complex but restrained. Lighter whiskey than expected... much more of a BSPA than a BSDA... no dark malt/fruit elements really at all... peach and apricot are the biggest players with a dry vanilla/oak in the background... light clove phenol notes with an even lesser peppery bite. Body is medium/light with a pretty big but expected carbonation.

I get a sweetness and slight yeasty and wood aroma from this hazy orangy red brew. The taste is sweet and slightly bitter followed by a nice woody flavor coupled with the warmth o the alcohol. It's full bodied and very well done.

Uitgeschonken in origineel nieuw drakenei glas.

(Gulden Draak The Brewmasters Edition) Corked and caged bottle, 750 ml, served into a small tulip. ABV 10.5%, bottled 2/14 so it’s a bit more than one year old. Gulden Draak was one of my first high ABV beers when I started rating, easily available and pretty tasty. Opens with a loud pop. Orange coloured body, a bit cloudy. Tall and thick head, mostly white, good retention. Spots of lacing every here and there on the glass. Aroma of peach, apricot, some yeast, no aroma of whiskey here, more fruity notes, some berries. The barrel aging is notable on the taste though. Indeed, whiskey flavour, alcohol, faint wood, sugars, fruity notes. Medium thin body, high carbonation. Too early maybe? It is a bit harsh, and I’d like something more on the aroma, but in any case it is tasty and drinks nicely.

Sample at Essen Kerstbierfestival 2014, shared with Mathieu87. Found back notes that where lost. APPEARANCE: brown beer, small stable beige head. NOSE: some oak, malty, some alcohol. TASTE: malty, quite heavy, some oak, whiskey is there as well

A nice whiskey barrel aged version of gulden draak. Pours a beautiful bright cloudy orange with a tan head. Smells of banana, apple and strawberry. Taste is quite sweet in the Belgium spectrum, but not tart. Lots of Apple and banana, and just a slight amount of whiskey in the finish. Good.

Bouteille 75cl, BB 23/07/2017.

Bottle. Orange with a darkish hue, hazy. Fruity oak- aged nose. Dried apricots, dried pineapples, slight buttery cream corny soft malty. And a sort of dark overtune. Whiskey sure, but almost bourbundy with all the fruityness. Full bodied, quite soft, round. Lots of sweets, belgy yeasty malty. Med long finish, really tasty though. The BA isn’t overpowering or aggressive, kind of nicely melted together. The high abv isn’t bothering either, so pretty nicely done. Smooth, tasty.
