Our brewmaster, Jef Versele, crafted this exclusive Gulden Draak Brewmasters Edition as a tribute to his grandfather Jozef Van Steenberge and the 230th birthday of the brewery. His inspiration came from his numerous trips to the United States and his deepest respect for the craft beer culture. This exclusive Gulden Draak combines the technology and the craftsmenship of the traditional brewing process. By letting the beer mature on whiskey barrels it gives it a distinctive and gental finish that you have never tasted before.

Bottle from Brewer’s Haven Boise... Paid $13ish... Pours a hazy dark yellow/orange... looks like peach or apricot nectar... not very pleasing... the head is off white and sticks around for quite a while... Not nearly as dark as the standard Gulden Draak. The nose is pretty interesting.. spicy/fruity... apricot and lite clove with a dusting of whiskey and vanilla.. complex but restrained. Lighter whiskey than expected... much more of a BSPA than a BSDA... no dark malt/fruit elements really at all... peach and apricot are the biggest players with a dry vanilla/oak in the background... light clove phenol notes with an even lesser peppery bite. Body is medium/light with a pretty big but expected carbonation.

Draft to snifter. Nose is lightly medicinal with vanilla. Hazy orange. Aroma persists with booze. Taste is much better. Sweet. Sticky. Light vanilla. All work well to form an almost vanilla pie character. Not bad but above mediocre.

0.75 bottle.
Delicately hazy, dark red color with a large, white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, very fruity, prunes, wood, some yeasts, dough and spices as expected from a Belgian ale. Taste is sweet, malty, alcoholic, caramel, less fruity, whisky can be distinctly felt. A medium to full body, a creamy texture, and an average carbonation. Finish is long, also alcoholic, fruitier, relatively strong but somehow palatable at the same time. Overall the beer is great, it has been a while since I had a proper BA beer and this one hit the right spot at the right time.

Orange color, medium beige head. Fruity aromas, caramel malt, yeast and some spice. Taste is sweet fruits with a lot of yeast and an alcoholic touch during the finish. Not very balanced but complex and interesting.
