Dark brown with a lively tan head. Roasted aroma, tastes of alcohol and malt. Should age well.

Lighter winter version of the classic Gulden Draak since 2005, with a malty, yeasty and spicy (coriander) character, but less sweet than the regular; caramel and nutty malts, dryish taste with some candied fruits, bitterish finish. Basically a downtuned version of their regular Gulden Draak - and in that sense equally purposeless as e.g. Duvel Groen. Never understood why Van Steenberge came up with this in the first place. But not a bad Belgian ale, generally speaking.

Draft pour at Special Brews. Pours a dark red color. A very unique aroma full of spices which hooked me right away. Flavor is full of spices with small hints of fruit throughout. Raisins, dates, a little cherry, all backed with some pepper. I can honestly say I have never had a beer quite like this one. This beer goes full circle with sweet fruit to peppery spice, and finishes very refreshing. Gets better as it goes to. Very much impressed by this beer. Might have to look in to their other beers now. Solid.

750 ml bottle vintage 2010 tasted January 27 2014.

Pours into my Gulden Draak tulip, brown with surprisingly red highlights and a frothy tan head. Aroma of mulled spices and belgian yeast, grassy hops and cola. Cobwebby basement. Dark fruit. The flavor is only modestly sweet, again the spices, ginger and anise, plus a bit of pepper and a diet cola and pear-skin finish. Very much like a dubbel. Aggressively carbonated, additional bubbles springing to life in the mouth. This one doesnít particularly stand out from the crowd of good Belgian strong ales, but it is perfectly nice beer, comparably low alcohol, and capable of maintaining interest all the way through a 750 tonight.

Tuoksussa anista, lakritsaa. Maussa makeaa alkoholimaisuutta, lakritsia ja mausteita. Liian makea ja alkoholinen.

Tap at Oasis. Stained glass brown-burgundy body. Thin steady off-white head. Creamy Belgian Brown ale, lots of fruity undercurrents...cherry, raisin, plum. Quite nice and surprisingly mellow. Deep mulled cherry and brown malt notes. Served in official glass, this is quite a treat. Candy sugar notes. Molasses, wood..very faint. Delicate, excellent.

Well, I sure liked this. A lot. Maybe because itís a 2011 vintage and I donít have much experience with aged beers (Wow a year and a few months ago!). Itís a caramel Belgian bomb. That sounds disgusting, but really itís not, I mean itís rich with the phenols and esters working together to make a nice showcase for malt. Laced up. I like dark Belgian strongs, period. Really should change my "favourite style" to that but I think you really have to be itching for the Belgian tastes to really to be open to them at a particular moment, itís not an all-the-time style for me. Those Belgians! Maybe Iíve spent too much time in Holland.

Bottled. Poursark amber with a foamy beige head. Nose of yeast, toasted malt, caramel and dark fruit. Sweet flavor with a slightly sour finish. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and soft CO2. An OK strong Belgian. ★★★

Pours clear golden color with a small head. Aroma of strong alcohol, caramel, some toffee notes and yeast, faint spice hints too. Flavor is also a bit boozy, caramel malts, toffee and spices are there too.
