Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Beautiful, thick brown molasses-type appearance, opaque at its thickest and tawny-amber when translucent. Strong aromas of apple and pear on the nose, along with bananas, cherries and an intense, almost prune-y sweetness. Taste is sweet, dominated by caramel malt flavors and notes reminiscent of birch or maple sap. In the Belgian tradition hop character is minimal, alcohol is strong, and the good brew is thick and delicious. I couldn’t ask for a better holiday feast compliment. The only gripe is the strength of the beverage causes heartburn.

Draft. Pours hazy chesnut brown with a moderate, tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, peper, raisin, fig, and hints of chocolate and dry hops. Fuller bodied with a thick, carbonated mouthfeel. Warm, quick finish. Very good quadrupel.

33cl bottle. Pours dark mahogany with no head. Only some small bubbles on the surface. Some lacing. Nose is nicely spicy and a bit sweet. Nice red fruits, caramel and some alcohol. Taste is quite sweet, some spices. Moderate bitterness. Finish is rather dry. Palate is very flat with only a small amount of carbonation on the back of the tongue. I don’t like this too much. some alcohol on the taste, quite warm. Nice beer but carbonation is too soft for me.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is strong with a mix of caramel and fruits. The taste is smooth for a 10.5% beer and has the same malty caramel taste with hints of fruits, reminded me of apples. Overall an excellent beer worthy of its rank in my opinion.

750ml bottle. Mahogany brown color with a huge beige head that started to lace the glass and didn’t really recede. Aroma is of malty-plum mixed with some banana esters. Flavor show the malty-plum again with a touch of chocolate.

Presentation: Beautiful white 750 ml bottle with gold. black and red labels. Appearance: Dark brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma: Spiciness and sweetness typically associated with a belgian triple ales. Slight alcoholic notes, not overpowering. Flavor: Very malty and bready with strong toffee/caramel backbone. Spicy and hoppy on the backside. Palate: Thick thick thick. Chewy almost. Overall: Not too shabby. I really enjoyed this beer. The bottle alone is worth the purchase, it’s a beauty.

[2577-20091108] bottle. Sweet fresh grain bread aroma. Hazy, dark brown mud body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. More heavy sweet grain malt flavour has toasted sugar notes. Full body. Good, drinkable, boozy but balanced.

A best dark beer with balanced sweetness. Anyway, as dark beers go quite acoholic and and bitter finish.
