COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Strong and delicious. Problem is just that you end up being thirsty after finishing this one.

330ml bottle, cellar cool. Rich and dark, like a liquid spicy fruit cake. I prefer this to the Piraat I had around the same time. At 10.5%, you want to spend a bit of time with a beer, and you can get to the end of this one without feeling like it’s outstayed its welcome

Mmmmm...smells like sweet caramel, some dark, dried fruits, some light spices (clove mainly), honey, and alcohol. Very nice - similar to most well-made Belgian ales. Poured dark brown with a tan colored head. Very voluminous head. Flavors engulf the palate on this one. Tastes like biting into a caramel sticky bun with the amount of caramel and bready malts that are in the forefront. Very sweet. Finish is alcohol, some slight hop and more bready malt. Very pleasant and easy to drink so watch out.

Tulip glass (goblet on the menu) draft at The Yard House in the Legends, Kansas City, Kansas. The beer was served super cold. Pour is a hazed brown amber, with a really well formed light tan one inch head. Aroma is yeast fruit sweetness, along with a good amount of caramel malt followed in the end by some light grassiness. Taste is the sweet malt and apple fruity sweet yeast. Sweet cloys a bit in the longish finish, which also reveals some clove. Palate is medium to heavy bodied, a bit syrupy, along with the aforementioned sweet clove finish. Well made, just sweet for my personal tastes.
