COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2003 Nice heavy beer. If you drink it, don't expect to be able to go out and party afterwards.

Cidery apricot aroma hits the ol’ probascis. Head is a marshmallow maker’s wet dream. Flavor is defined by an ultra sweetness ... do they even ad hops to this brew? Almost cloying in sweetness ... still the raisin flavor stimulates memories of blowing a sour note through a small cardboard box. Way too sweet for me. Decent rating stems from originality.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2003 World-class tan foam. Huge nose of rum and plum alongside chocolate, cotton candy, coconut, mustiness, melon, and yeast. Oh so dreamy palate of delicate creaminess. Yet this is a tad bit thinnish. Candied malts and toffee are in the forefront; followed by yeast notes and raisin. Hop whispers blend well. Peppery notes emerge in the long finish. Even with signs of oxidation this remains glorious.

Almost like a Belgian barley wine. Dark brown. Thick. Big head. Strong alcohol aroma. Malty. Sweet. Some caramel. Very full bodied.

Impressive looking ’stubbie’. Beer pours a deep copper colour with an enormous head. Complex sweet fruity flavour with underlying alcohol that becomes more evident as it warms. Recommended

Pours a deep amber/red, large, pale tan head. Very nice biscuity, malty, toffee aroma. Volatile upon first tasting, too many fusel alcohols. After about 15-20 mins breathing, flavours of chocolate, toffee, banana, whisky, every mouthfull brings a different combination of flavours. The main downfall is in the palate, a bit too thin, with unpleasant alcohol bite on the tongue. A pleasant journey none-the-less.

Suprising for a Triple. Normally, the style is not quite as dark. Very sweet malty flavor, almost plum like. As it warmed, alcohol more noticable. White head that lasted for the lengthg of the beer. Impressive.

Wow this one is big. Milky-toffee aroma. Cherry like look with thick thick head that vanished a bit with time. Rather sweet, a bit too sweet (sweetness hides well alcohol right?). Average, there a re many more better Belgian SAs out there. Thanks Doug for having this one!

So thick and dark I think the Loc Ness Monster could live in it. Extremely Balanced and tasty. This is a beer for the Royals, well for me too on weekends.Bottom of glass was full of sediment, this was 1 of 6 in a Belgian Ale sampler, and I bet its the best one, then again, I am a betting man.
