COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Tulip glass (goblet on the menu) draft at The Yard House in the Legends, Kansas City, Kansas. The beer was served super cold. Pour is a hazed brown amber, with a really well formed light tan one inch head. Aroma is yeast fruit sweetness, along with a good amount of caramel malt followed in the end by some light grassiness. Taste is the sweet malt and apple fruity sweet yeast. Sweet cloys a bit in the longish finish, which also reveals some clove. Palate is medium to heavy bodied, a bit syrupy, along with the aforementioned sweet clove finish. Well made, just sweet for my personal tastes.

4/5 i mörkhet. Luktar nästan lite amoniak och sött. Tjock, spritig och väldigt söt, Söt och spritig eftersmak.

A very good dark Strong Ale. This nice light brown beer with excellent thick and good tasting foam has a very strong caramel aroma very well redeemed by a medium alcoholic taste and slightly roasted. Has an immediately strong taste in the mouth and is overall sweet. Good long finish too.

Pours deep brown from bottle with a massive khaki head that eventually dissipates. The nose smells like a bakery. It’s sweet, doughy, warm. The taste is also complex and well balanced. You definitely get some sweetness but also a hint of hoppiness on the finish which flattens out the spice parts. It’s very difficult for me to pice apart this beer. It seens to blend together so seamlessly. It also hides it’s 10.5% very well.

750 ml. bottle with about 6 months on it. Dark clear ruby color with a lightly beige, grey head which rather than being creamy is more bubbly / fizzy looking, yet with very good retention. Aroma is malty and fruit, with notes of honey glazed raisin, caramel, a touch of toffee, musky dark grape, actually an almost banana like sweetness becomes apparent as well, along with fig and burnt sugar. This is one where the aroma / flavor evolve greatly with the warmth of the beer. You can keep getting different things from it. Flavor is dark and sugary, but balanced by an almost tartness from the dark fruits, plum, fig, light prune. Medium bodied and the high gravity is well masked. Overall complex, interesting, but not exactly MY style of Belgian strong, still would recommend to anyone.

Hieman katkera. Alkoholi tuntuu ja lämmittää mukavasti. Ehkä hieman laiha yli kymppivolttiseksi. Herkullinen perusbelgi voisi olla hyvä kuvaus tästä oluesta. Maistuu varmasti taas joskus uudestaan, kun oikea hetki koittaa.

amber brown color with a minimal tan head. You can already feel the alcohol in the aroma and when drinking you find tofee and caramel so it is very sweet, but in the end it release a pleasant hoppy (almost bitter) aftertaste. Tried along with a caramel ice-cream and it was a good combination. In the end it is good, but not my all time favourite beer

Nice amber coloring with white creamy head. The smell of honey and caramel are balanced nicely with earthy hops. Toffee and roasted flavor finishes clean and pleasant.
