COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Dark Brown? Amber yellow? You look at these ratings and wonder if the brewery uses the white bottles to hide the fact that they put any old beer in the bottles.Mine looked like Rochefort 10.There the similarity ends. Instead of a full body of properly aged malts, candy sugar is used to affect the body of a matured beer. This is a typical cheap shortcut of the sort found in Kasteelbier and the like which to me is a betrayal of Belgian brewing tradition.

Amber/yellow, with a beige head. Aroma is malty and fruity from pineapples. Maybe some sweet chocolate in it as well. Flavor is strong, malt. Its easy to tell that this is a strong bbeer, even if most of the alcohol is hidden. Maybe it would be better with a little less ABV.

Dark brown, ruby tinted beer with a huge lasting tan-coloured head. A fantastic maltiness presents itself, with aromas of fresh baked bread, yeast, cookie dough, dark fruit and brown sugar making an appearance. Flavour also shows prominent malt, prunes/plums/raisins, with dark Candi sugar, caramel, brown sugar and a fair bit more bitterness rounding off the sweet malty flavour than many other Belgians I’ve had. As this beer warms, more fruit comes out along with soft milk chocolate and malted milk. Alcohol is well hidden but still gives a nice warming feeling. A first rate beer.

I liked this Belgian Brew, it has a bit of a toffee flavor, but not overpowering, for a Belgian, it went down pretty easy, good, solid flavor, its high abv, but didn’t drink like it was so strong. Good beer!

Darkamber in color with a yellowish head. Has a little touch of pineapple in aroma. A little to much alcohol for my taste.

Huge tan coloured head, that didn’t want to go away, on top of a black/dark brown cola coloured body.On the nose I seemed to pick up grains and not much else, let alone the alcohol. I found the taste sweet but pleasant, mainly malt flavours, more of the soft caramel and chocolate, it was medium to full bodied, well balanced with some dryness to clean it up and you don’t notice the alcohol. Cheers!

Bottle...with the labels falling off. WTF? Reddish-brown, a bit hazy. Big head. Sweet, thick mouthfeel, some nice maltiness...toffee, perhaps some chocolate? Dry finish, interesting mouthfeel but something just didn’t do it for me (admittedly my rating notes are kind of scant at this point)

deep red flavor and rich wine like smell compliment the thick sweet taste. you can smell the alcohol but the taste is smooth with only a hint of the alcohol.Very Good Beer

Poured a dard reddish-brown with a huge brown/tan head. Heavy yeasty smell with a Malty aroma. Tastes of molasses and toffee with light fruits (very sweet). I couldn’t get over the yeasty smell. Alcohol well hidden. However, the beer grew on me as I drank more.

This is a good beer with a nice alcohol content that does not show in the taste. Nice and thick and a very dark brown color. There is a sweetness character to this beer. The only problem I have with it is that the label is always falling off the beer, whats up with that.
