Deep ruby red in color. Large fluffy head. Aroma of stale grains and a sweetness of ripe fruit. The taste is not impressive. Bland dark malts with an unbalanced yeaty finish.

This brew has a huge alcohol, yeasty, sweet apple-cinnimon aroma, maybe some pineapple thrown in-I can taste it already; quite subdued for such a strong nose: caramel, chocolate, candi sugar, fruit, dough.....is that "Hefeklosse"? (German yeast dumpling/pear dish mom used to make)?; quite sweet with a bit of a slight dry finish. This is one brew thats go so much going for it: drinkablity, flavor, kick, charactor....itsa beautiful thing!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dixen (1465) - Flagstaff, Arizona, USA - MAY 17, 2004
Bottle at DBF 2004. Thick brown body. Aroma is sweet and malty. Same is the flavor. Very thick mouthfeel. Very decent.

This is actually #350, it reads 351 as I have a repeat rating that needs removing. Bottle Conditioned. This wasn’t looking to be very good on the aroma. I had visions of Fuller’s Golden Pride and Vintage Ale ’99 all over again. Moving on to the beer though, it was actually very pleasent. It has that entire strong dark/whisky thing... but not in a really unpleasent way like Fuller’s have overdone it. This is a good beer, not great... not something I would drink often, but far more drinkable than the Fuller’s offerings.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2004 Bottle. No lasting head. Dark red/brown colour. Complex fruity and yeasty aroma. A lot fo body, but with too much carbonacid. Sharp taste with light/medium bitterness.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 skaughty (625) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - MAY 8, 2004
UPDATED: DEC 20, 2004 Re-rate An additional tasting on draft settles my indecision - I love ths beer. Caramel Apples in a bottle, with some spiced cider to wash them down. hyper sweet and strong. Upgraded from 3.5 to 4.2 on this tasting - wow!
Mystery beer in a mystery bottle. It poures like thick cola, smells like thick cola, is sweet like cola, but it has a peppery heat to it. The finish was long - giving me more time to ponder what is this stuff? Do I like it? I’m still undecided.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 8, 2004
Pours a rich deep dark copper with a puffy and well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of dense sweet caramel, light fruits and butterscotch. Starts very sugary sweet with a thick malty palate. Bready Belgian yeast flavors are also present, leading to a sticky candi sugar finish with a touch of warming alcohol. Could use a little more bitterness to counteract the massive sweetness, but otherwise a nice Belgian strong that hides its alcohol quite well.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Sammy (7040) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 6, 2004
Way too sweet for me and friends. Too carbinated. Too high in alcohol. Too creamy. Maybe as dessert beer, but much better competitors there. Comparable to soft drink when you are expecting beer.
