COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Pours a dark, hazy redish-brown with a thin quickly dissipating head. Typical belgian ale aroma, nothing too special - you’ve got the sweet malts, dark fruits, cherry, molasses, and caramel. Tastes almost like a dopple bock. Thick and sweet with strong malts, spices, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, raisins. Very nice alcohol warmth on the palate and good mouth-feel. Creamy texture and excellent floral hops in the finish. This belgian is delicous and goes down smooth with very little bitterness or sourness.

Test vom 13.11.2009, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Don’t remember much from this beer except that it is a pretty nice tripel-like and that it has lively carbo.

330 ml bottle. Hazy dark amber colour, medium-sized light beige head. Sweetish aroma of caramel malt, yeast, a whiff of alcohol and a variety of dark fruits. The flavour is syrupy sweet, slightly roasted, with dark fruits and a warm finish. The alcohol is too prominent for my taste, but otherwise this is an excellent beer.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a deep amber colour with a large, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of pleasant caramel, ripe fruits and mild spices. Flavour of caramel malts, syrup, ripe fruits, hops and spices. Rich mouthfeel and a lovely warming fruity finish. Quite complex actually and alcohol is well hidden. Great.

Bottled. Poured dark amber in colour with fluffy tan head. Brown sugar, spices and exotic dark fruits in aroma. Sweet and slightly yeasty flavour. Alcohol coming through a bit too much, which isn’t pleasant.

Wakes the taste buds up. Has a fruity alcohol punch to it that works quite elegantly. I enjoy the way it makes you feel like you’re drinking an actual beer. Wonderful sweet warm flavor lingers well after the last sip. A splendid time.

draft@Bierpassie Weekend 2011: apparently differs from the regular version by which malts they used, this one has amber malts, appearance is brown/amber with a red hue & very small white head, dark malts mixed with a thin layer of caramel with slightly fermenting dark fruits mixed with regular fruitiness, light sweetness, spices in the aftertaste & a small touch of booze (less than in the regular one), very nice sipper, lighter &better version, I personally prefer this one but I think that I am part of a very small minority, others might call this a simplified version

bottle@Kulminator, poured from a big 1,5 litre bottle in a wicker basket, cool presentation, plenty of yeast, strong cane sugar/toffee flavour + small hint of barely very noticeable but still deceptive alcohol, only dark tripel (as they have typified it), I have ever head of
