COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Pours out a clear reddish hued brown with a nice white head. The aroma is of some fruit and some malty notes. Taste is complex with noticible alcohol. Notes of toffee some malts and some dried raisin flavors. A very solid beer

11.2oz. no date. Pours a clear red brown with a lasting, moderate beige head. Aroma of bananas, cloves, alcohol, Belgian yeast, prunes and brown sugar, toffee. The alcohol is apparent in the taste. The taste has the addition of a little bit of grain and a lightly bitter dry finish. High carbonation, medium to full bodied. Very nice beer, and the bottle, like Delirium, is very UV friendly, being painted and all. Had this a long time ago, and didn’t realize I hadn’t rated this.

Starts out sweet like many Belgians. Finishes better than most Belgians. It finished more like a lager.

Strong toffee, caramel malt aroma with some dark sweet fruit. Nice whitish tan head and deep apricot brown color with a few chunks of yeast and other wonderful objects. Starts with thick sweet fruit, ends with some dusty fruit and hop. The middle seems to be missing. Well enough balanced that the alcohol is not bothersome. A bit of cooked plum persists with the bitterness. Good way to end an evening.

Mahogany rose in color and semi-hazed, with a foamy khaki grey head. Circus peanuts present themselves first to the nose, collaborating with toffee brittle, caramel coated & brown sugar dashed pralines, and prunes marinating in brandy plum sauce. Quite the sweet, aromatic treat. Sweet sugar abundance carries through to the flavor. Vibrant caramel glaze overrides the brown sugared golden raisins and dates. Plums mysteriously seep into a deep rooted crème brûlée. Sugar cane grows in tobacco fields. Brown sugar plethora rolls with a dry, cocoa dusted chicory stick. Toned and off-kilter weave into a syrupy palate feel with buttery amaretto-flavored Tylenol. Semi-medicinal finish fades into cherry pipe tobacco and chewy toffee nougats before the final curtain falls.

This beer comes to me preceded by a great fame. Remarkable design of the bottle. The beer: tea color, clowdy amber.Little bubbles with bottle fermentation aspect. Excellent lacing, creamy and stable foam. Smooth aroma like dry fruits, plums, maybe cherries. Very good body. It’s like a syrup. Sweet taste, bitter but pleasing aftertaste.

Pours a clear rich red brown with a substantial relatively dense light tan head. The nose is sour and sweet with subdued dark malt. Nothing particularly special or offensive. The palate is thick and heavy on the tongue with a syrupy thickness that, gasp, dare I say it, goes too far. Very low key carbonation as well. The flavor is certainly much more subdued in terms of sourness and complex than the aroma. Big sweet malt accented by sourness, particularly strong in the caramel and chocolate flavors. Something almost buttery about this beer. The alcohol is noticable, but not distracting or even unpleasant. The chocolate returns after the initial sour flavors. The lingering bitterness is a sourness/ alcohol sort of combo that is relatively clean. I really enjoyed this beer, and maybe pick up more in the future.

A deep red, almost brown color with a large creamy head. Mostly smells sweet and sour, some caramel. The flavor is like cranberry juice, sour apples, some hops, some caramel but less than in the aroma, with a lingering fruity sweetness. The sweetness is just too much for me, and the sourness doesnt help either. However, it looks good, and its got a nice creamy smooth consistency.

Bottle. It reminds me the Rochefort Trapist 12. Quite sweet, fruity, with the classical chocolate and caramel taste of this kind of beer. Excellent.

Bottled. Deep brown, malty wash over the nsoe with a hint of stewed plum, a wonderfully smooth taste, just glides along, incredible how the alcohol content is disguised. A consumate example of Belgian beer, great stuff made to look simple.
