3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Malty sweet aroma with plums. Some hop aroma out of the bottle that dissipates as the beer warms and gives way to the aforementioned. Golden red hue with an enormous tight tan head that dissipates gradually and leaves no lacing at all. Thick toffee syrup flavor that is a bit cloying. Alcohol flavor is definitely present and contributes to the dry finish. Palate is medium to heavy with a modest carbonation twinge that, when coupled to the alcoholic hotness, contributesd to a very dry finish for a beer that is so incredibly sweet. Overall this beer is equal to the sum of its parts. I am particularly stricken by the complex aroma and plum flavors.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pure dark red with a large lasting beige head. Lovely lacing left on glass. Huge sweet aroma of caramel toffee, raisins, fairy floss and a bit of spice. Smooth silky full mouthfeel. Clean caramel malt flavours, a bit of chocolate there too? Nice spice to finish it off. ABV is very well masked. Really top stuff, goes down easy enough to be a session beer!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
One of the best looking beers I've seen. Dark red with a tan head. Aroma is of malt and sweetness. Taste is very sweet and you can taste lots of alcohol. Looks better than it tastes.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 7, 2007 (Bottled, 0.75l) Hazy, very dark ruby brown with a very large, fluffy-foamy and tanned head. Sweet, grainy-malty aroma with lots of dried fruit and hints of strawberry. Very syrupy-caramely-malty, mildly roasty, very fruity and somewhat alcoholic flavor. Medium to full-bodied, syrupy-sweet, alcoholic and foamy-carbonated palate. More bearable when warm and with yeast, but still quite sweet, grainy-alcoholic and straightforward overall.
(Bottled, 0.33l, rated 4/8/2004, was 7-4-6-4-13=3.4) Very dark red color with a huge, off-white head. Very malty and sweet, rye pudding aroma. Sweet and sour rye pudding flavor. Full-bodied, sweet and slicky, sticky palate. A very nice, full and sweet brew for the easter. A bit too sweet during other times.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Huge frothy light-brown head that is there for a while. Dark red body. Aroma is dry lemon, bread, maybe some strawberry or other berry, and band-aid. Seems complex, but light. Has a fairly thick mouthfeel. Tastes a bit dry and sweet with sort of a lemony hop background, sweet toast, very light sweet coffee or toffee, and some fruit again. Also has some kind of rusty taste to it, but not so much that it is bad. I can tell its a strong beer, but there is nothing overpowering in that arena. Overall, very enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
25 cL, draught, but served under sub-optimal conditions for rating. A clear, deep red beer with a creamy, beige head. Very sweet and bitter; the high alcohol content was apparent immediately and lingered in the long aftertaste. Mouthfeel was smooth and greasy. A good beer, though the alcohol was too dominant for my taste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Love the white bottle. Murky, deep brown. A peach colored, small head. Aroma has cherry, vanilla and wood. The flavor is very complex. Maple and some apricot dominate the flavor up. It gets to be a little much on the sweetness. This is still very good. I just wish they would balance the sweetness a little more.

I have yet to be let down by Brouwerij Van Steenberge. This was a great way to celebrate my 200th beer. Slighty sweet, however some bitter notes come through.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Interesting white bottle. Pours a deep mahogany color, held up to the light a deep cherry color, generous head. Aroma of dark fruit, plum, cherry, caramel, sweet malt. Flavor is sweet, plenty of fruit and caramel again, alcohol finish. Full bodied, alcohol comes through, but doesn't hinder the drinking. Very good.
