4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Odd, pours a nice opaque color with nice jumpy head. Smells of spice, wood and some citrus. Sharp pepper blast, with malts and very mild hop snap. Alcohol sting, kills a bit of the mouthfeel. Not a highly drinkable brew, but a great sipper and was wonderful with chocolate cream pie. Odd, unusual, very different and very good.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2004 Incredible. One of the best beers I have ever had. Full rich aroma, smells like a fruit party in my nose. Rich creamy head puncuated by a rich creamy flavor. Great everything! Loved the experience of drinking this beer. Although I shouldn't have had it with chicken.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330mL bottle. The aroma is predominately of alcohol and yeast. There's also some hints of caramel. Huge off-white frothy head also leaves a nice lacing around the glass. very sweet, creamy, easy drinking. lightly hopped. Alcohol (10.5%) comes right through to the finish and can seem quite harsh.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 13, 2005 Gulden Draak pours ruby brown, almost clear with no traces of yeast?, but a generous sticky head for this ABV. Aroma is vinous, very malty (caramel, butterscotch) with a tickling grapes character melted with ashes. The taste is as sweet as anticipated, very caramelic, but mostly floral clover honey and licorice with a slight medicinal note and more brown sugar toward the finish which is all malt. I couldn’t drink too much of this myself, but I appreciate the sipping experience and the medium body fits well. I think this would blend together better being forgotten for a while in a cave. Thanks Martin!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Well, seems to be a volitile compound, as it exploded when the cork was popped, and then produced about five times as much head as liquid. That not withstanding, it has a good dark red color. (but the foam, dear lord the foam...) Aroma is indeed a bit sweet and spiced, but reminds me a slight bit of cheese... Well, I have yet to actually drink this at all, but I'll try to keep an open mind on the flavor department. Flavor is fruity with a somewhat malty overall feel to it. I would give it a much higher rating, if it were not for the the down sides of it all.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2004 Re-Rate Dark ruby brown body with a huge fluffy off white head. Sweety fruit aroma, touch of sugar and molasses, candi sugar? Sweet dark fruit, malt and candi sugar in the flavour, touch of caramel toffee. Dry hing of alcohol in the finish succumbs to a long lingering sweetness in the aftertaste that manages to not be cloying. Very smooth, not quite syrupy body. Much better than I recall. A testament to the re-rate.8/4/8/4/17<P> Original Rating Brownish colour with a beige head, aroma is alcoholic and hints of fruit. Very effervescent body with lots of very sweet maltiness and candied flavours followed up by some alcohol. This ranges from exquisite to harsh in a single glass. 6/4/7/4/14

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at The Bishops Arms, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Dark amber with a large, creamy head.
A bit sourish, vinegar-aroma with yeast and citrus.
Fizzy and, in to me, too sweet.
A full-bodied beer with a lot of maltiness.
