Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Bottled. Brownish orange colour with nice white foamy head. Sweet malts, fruit and some yeast in aroma. Also a sting of alcohol. Flavour is much sweeter than I thought and consists of sweet malts, alcohol, yeast and fruits. Warming finish.

Medium white head. Dark copper color. Musty Malty cheesy nose. Yeast hits you first on the palate followed by raisin malts to temper the taste throughout. Alchol present but pushed backwards.

I really expected this beer to be golden but its actually a dark brown with a thick tan head. Hints of bourbon and caramel in the aroma. Caramel, raisins, and spiced oranges with a sour finish. Enjoyable but not fantastic.

Poured a nice dark amber with a creamy tight beige head and good lace. Aroma was fruity with lots of yeast, some caramel malts, special b, and even some hints of roasted malts. Flavor has some fruit, along with hints of chocolate, and some spice from the yeast. Nice complexity and good mouthfeel in the end. Didnt notice the alcohol at all.

33 cl bottle. Murky brown with a small, lasting head. Aroma is malty sweet with smokey grains. Taste has some currants & cherries. Yeasty like Westy 12. Peppery and warmin and very complex.

Poured a cherrywood brown (reddish hues throughout); firm, white head. Aroma of sweet fruits, yeast, and alcohol, but well balanced for being so strong. Flavors are very sweet for this strong ale, quite malty, yeasty, and a alcohol.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2005 Pours a dark brownish red body, small head. Aroma is raisiny with spices. Some berry in there too. Flavor is the same, with some alcohol. As it warmed it improved greatly and became almost chewy.

Sweet black cherry taste balanced well with a strong alcohol presence, and a weedy/hoppy aftertaste. This one is powerfully tasty and just plain powerful.
