Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

I actually prefer this over the abt 12. Phenomenal beer. Great palate, complex flavor and awesome aftertaste. A little alcoholic but that is to be expected from a strong ale.

2008 bottle. Had side by side with the Gulden Draak Vintage Ale. Pours with a small, light brown head that fades and remains in memory by a strong ring and very strong lacing. Some strongish alcohol legs join the lacing. Body is a murky deep red. Aroma of port, fruity esters (some toffee covered bananas), cinnamon, mace, candi sugar, candied walnuts, spiced bake apple, alcohol, and overall quite perfumey. Taste is rich and very sweet quad. Mouthcoating with fruits, sweet cherry and plum, tons of yeast and rich fruity esters. Banana, alcohol, but very smooth. Creamy mouthfeel that is a bit coating, light carbonation. Warming. An interesting, slightly bad yeasty aftertaste. I am not the biggest fan of the yeast presence in a lot of beers by Van Steenberge.

Molto dolce. Si sente molto il luppolo, quasi caramellata. Gradazione alta.

Bottle. Dark amber body with a medium bubbly head. Lots of dark fruits and spices in aroma with cherry notes that makes it a bit sour. Body is medium and carbonation is explosive. Flavour is full of ripe fruit like raisins and prunes but also the typical belgian spicy notes. The alcohol is also present. Long fruity alcoholic finnish.

Pours a deep red with a small beige head with god retention. Aroma of alcohol, dark fruits, cloves. Taste is very sweet with black cherries, raisins, and toffee. Some warming in the finish. Medium to thick-bodied.

Pours mahogany with definite red tints. Aroma of alcohol, spice, clove, dark fruit, and vinous qualities. Flavor is quite sweet, but still dry and not cloying whatsoever. Lots of fruit, cane sugar, and alcohol once more. Solid palate, quite a decent ABT.

Pours dark reddish brown with minimal head. Nose is a nice clove yeast with great dark fruit content. Flavor is sweet and surprisingly well balanced. Lots of sweetness with a semi-dry, somewhat of an alcohol tinge. Palate is rich and smooth. Nice brew, and great representation of the style.
