Powertrip (183), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 11, 2008 Cloudy deep brown with an enormous head. Yeasty with hints of cabernet sauvignon, honey, small batch bourbon, salt and fresh malt. Starts mild, with smooth flowers, then mid palate erupts with dominating honey, toffee, and yeast. Chewy indeed. Fades with a slight burn and after notes of butter. Highly carbonated. fata2683 (840), Panama City, Florida, USA Dec 11, 2008 Bottle, pours deep mahogany with a tall rocky beige head that laces the glass well. Aroma is dark and spicy. Some dark candi sugar, faint raisin, and cinnamon meet nutmeg spice. Flavors greet the tongue with moderate to heavy carbonation, starts slightly sweet and turns bitter and spicy with the spicy finishing with a lingering heat in the mouth. The alcohol is more detectable as it warms slightly, but is not a major factor. Overall, I am happy with this, I drank it on a cold winter night, right before bed, and it hit the spot. Straling (185), Heerlen, Netherlands Dec 6, 2008 Bottle 33cl.
Pours a dark brown/red colour, about like coke, with a good size head that goes down almost right away and loads of carbonation.
Smell is rather vague.
Has the complex aroma of raisins, spices and several fruits, but its very hard to detect.
Taste is much more present and pleasant. Also has a good balance of fruits, raisins and spices.
Goes down very warm, but no alcohol in the taste. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Dec 5, 2008 Mud-brown color, thin head but good retention, and very nice intricate lacing. Sweetness up front on the nose, featuring brown sugar, dark fruits - mostly cherry, figs, and raisins - and vanilla. Sweet malts and strong black cherry/fig flavors up front, then molasses, creamy pudding and caramel. Medium to full body, lively carbonation, very pleasant toasted malt aftertaste. Just enough sense of alcohol to keep from going too far with it. Wonderful. TheJollyOne (204), Kofu, Japan Nov 29, 2008 Updated: Dec 20, 2008Poured a dark clear brown with a little tan head. Smelled of brown bread, sweet malt and dark walnuts. Sweet opening taste, brown surgar, toffee, malt sweetness, nice long caramel aftertaste. Medium on the palate, slightly bubbly. Nice beer, very full taste, almost a meal. Very good! VTHopHead (895), Barre, Vermont, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle - Poured a dark amber in color with a medium foamy tan head that stuck around. Aroma is malty and sweet with hints of dark fruit and faint of spicy hops. Flavor was an intense mix of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, caramel and a small amount of hops. Initially fairly sweet, but gives way to some hoppy bitterness at the end. Nice full palate. A good effort... worth seeking out again... TheGrandMaster (1847), Auckland, New Zealand Nov 27, 2008 Bottle (in NZ). Pours a dark brown with a foamy off white head. Christmas pudding on the nose. A full mouthfeel, warming toffee malt on the palate, with a spicy fruit swallow. Yum! Gypsy19 (604), California, USA Nov 21, 2008 Wow, this stuff is fuckin’ good. All kinds of flavors burst in your mouth upon first sip. Lots of gooey brown sugar, malt, toffee, and caramel are present. Very complex and creamy. I love it. Thanks, Draak.
