COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Rating #490, bottle from Lagersalget

A beautiful red-brown opaque beer. The head could be better, but is not bad at all. Aroma is very nice. Plums filled the room when poured, but when I’m smelling the glass it is more date-like with yeast, wood, chocolate and a bit alcohol. There might be some hidden caramel and banana too. Very fruity taste. There is a lot of plums and apricot, and finish is wood and coffee with a bit alcohol and a solid bitter finish. Very nice. Palate is surprisingly refreshing for a dark beer containing 10,5% Alcohol. This is a good brew, indeed.

Bottle. Hazy brown appearance. Good head. Aroma has sweet malts, raisins and a hint of alcohol to come. Taste consists of a pretty plain mix of malt, fruitiness and alcohol. Not very special, I’m afraid - lacks complexity. Why Golden Dragon? Why not just call it "Rusty Dragon"?

Hint of caramel and roasted malt. Pours a dark brown with a minimal frothy heady. Sweet, heavy taste with a very light sour secondary taste, maybe even a hint of sour. Overall a fantastic beer, would buy again in a heartbeat.

33 cl bottle. Poured in a Duvel glass. Dark brown body with a small beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma of ripe fruits, chocolate, coffee and roasted/toasted malt. Smells definitely like a Quadrupel like I read somewhere here. The taste is definitely bitter coffee, with touches of sweet dark malt and ripe fruit. Warm, slightly alcoholic aftertaste. Very enjoyable. One of the better beers of this brewery. coffee, roasty, dough, alcohol, brown, minimal head, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, thick feel, average carbonation, bitter,

750 ml bottle sampled with other beers and friends. Dark mahogoney pour with 2" tan head. Ripe fruits and lightly toasted malts combine to deliver aromas of sweet belgium yeast esters. Tastes is on the sweet side but still very sessionable for 10.5 abv. Flavors linger nicely on the tongue and finishes slick. I feel this resembles a double rather than a strong belgium ale.

Colore marrone scuro con pochissima schiuma. Aroma deciso di malto. Anche in bocca è sempre il malto a essere padrone, ma io l’ho trovata molto slegata, niente di che.

Huge head on this one, wish I used my Duvel Tulip instead of my Mad Elf version. Head is beige, and the pour is deep mahogany, almost brown. Very nice retention and lacing. Getting alcohol on the nose, dark fruits, and some maltiness. Smells more like a Quad than a Triple. I guess that’s why it’s listed as a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Taste starts off with dark fruits, which give way to some warming booziness, finished off by some candied sugar. A bit bitter from the yeast. Very interesting drink. Nice twang of carbonation on this one and a medium body. I could drink this all day. The alcohol isn’t overpowering and the taste is very interesting.
