mcberko (123), British Columbia, Canada Oct 14, 2009 330mL bottle - pours a dark brown into chalice. Aroma is roasted caramel and malts. Flavour is huge - malt-toffee, quite hoppy and a little sweet. The high ABV is noticeable, but well done. One of my favourite Belgians. Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Oct 11, 2009 Drank it with rcasta, rsamayoa and dageek in the Pepeshka while traveling in la bocana. Medium bodied, creamy texture and mouthfeel. Nice and balanced a tad sweet like toffee. Ryan82SM (231), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 11, 2009 Aroma of powdered sugar, currant and roasted caramel. Dark reddish brown, with creamy carbonated head. Flavor of warm brown sugar, roasted caramel, ripe plum and currant. Lively, yet creamy palate. Almost like drinking dessert. BeerDude78 (86), Denville, New Jersey, USA Oct 9, 2009 Wow very beer has flavors of raisin, plum, has a nice malty flavor to it also. A lot better then I was expecting, pours a nice creamy head. Actually tastes similar to Rocheford 10 durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Pours dark hazy brown with reddish tint. Not much head to speak of, but what’s there is beige. Nose offers lots of Belgian sugar, some yeast and dark fruits -- in particular, golden raisins, concord grapes, and plums. Bit of metallic notes. Boozy, and with a heavy palate. Good for splitting a bottle, but a bit much (and a bit one-dimensional) overall. geofbaum (12), Delaware, USA Oct 2, 2009 Out of a 750ml bottle, poured dark amber or reddish brown whichever is your fancy. Had a decent size head that dissipates to a manageable small amount. Smells of lots of malt, caramel, Belgian candi sugar, and perhaps a slight hint of dark/black cherry as you start to drink it down. Flavor definitely has a malt/sugary taste but also combined with a fruit flavor possibly the cherry or another fruit. Mildly hoppy at best which is probably good for a tripel/quad like this where the hops aren’t meant to shine through. Warming almost within a few sips of the glass with a decent amount of carbonation. Overall a good beer which is what I was hoping/expecting from the reviews I’ve read of it. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Oct 2, 2009 On tap at the Cheeky Monk in Denver. Is this a tripel or a quad? Sort of in the middle. Reddish-brown in color with a large foamy off-white head. Aroma is caramel, candi sugar, spices, and dark fruits. Flavor is caramel malt, toffee, candi sugar, plum, raisin, spices, mild hops, and some metallic notes. Pretty sweet. Would be very good if not for the slight metallicity. Palate is medium-full with fairly high carbonation and some alcohol warmth. Nicko (187), Ashfield, Australia Oct 2, 2009 Bottle. Ruby amber in colour, small off white head. Heaps of caramel, toffee, burnt sugar thing going on, some red cedar too. I didn’t actually "eat" it, as the description recommends, but i got a bit of the mellow happiness.
