COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Tasted on tap at the Cheeky Monk in Denver, Colorado. Very dark red/brown appearance with a red/brown head. Some sweet Belgian aroma with candy sugar. Flavor is very sweet from the candy sugar and mildly alcoholic with just a bit of a banana flavor. Described as a dark Tripel but really just a sweet Belgian strong ale. Too sweet in my mind.

pours a murky dark brown with a massive beige coloured head. aroma is all sweet malts, molasses and caramel. taste is on the sweet side with not much hops at all. not quite sure how this is a Triple, and not a Quad. feels lovely on the palate. full bodied and syrupy, medium carbonation. the perfect after dinner beer.

11.2 oz bottle from the Four Firkins. Dark brown/caramel colored pour with a foamy tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, caramel/toffee. Flavor is pretty sweet, more dark fruit and caramel, VERY nice. Finish is sweet caramel. Love this beer.

Sampled from a 330ml bottle while in Gent. Pours a reddish brown, with a nice head. Taste and aroma remind me slightly of maple syrup and raisins for some reason. Delicious all round beer.

10-dec-2010 33cl bottle at home. Dark red beer with nice lasting head. I had this one next to an Urthel Samarant. These beers are actually pretty much alike. Only the Gulden Draak is a little more balanced and fresh.

[Tap] Dark brown in color, with a dense beige colored head. Rich and malty aroma of molasses, caramel, light yeast and hints of alcohol. Decadent taste of dark fruits, toffee, cocoa, maple syrup and alcohol. Syrupy and full bodied character. Low carbonation. Includes a nice complexity of flavor as it warms. Highly enjoyable.

Dark-brown-reddish with respectful head. Nice lacing. Sweet caramel-toffee, darf fruits, figs, cherries. Medium body. The sweetness overweighs the alcohol content. Very fine (much more of a ) dubbel belgian beer, or belgian strong ale.

Tap. Deep ruby beer, clear. Creamy head is quite thin. Syrupy sweet aroma with complex fruitiness and spices. Dried dates, orange peel, dark candy, a hint of chocolate in the finish. Some yeasty esters, like sweet wine gums. Herbal hop notes somewhere in the back. Some alcoholic warmth in the finish. Oily texture, full bodied. Sweet but surpringly drinkable strong ale. Rich and complex. Bottle conditioned version might be even better.
