Pours a bright, deep gold bordering on amber with a nice white head. Smell has a bit of hops alongside some citrus and sweet, sweet malt. Taste is quite sweet as well with a good amount of grassy, floral hops to balance is out. The mouthfeel is quite full. Nice body without any real alcohol taste. Drinkability is on the high side. High in ABV, but quite delicious. This is a sipper.

This is a big hops and alcohol bomb for the ages, one of the first strong Belgians I tried. In retrospect, it doesn’t age well once tasting against true Belgian strong quality. Yes, it knocks you out good and yes, it’s not as bad as a sleazy malt liquor, but there are better examples out there. Yet, in broad distribution, most people probaly wouldn’t be able to find them.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Papillon (280) - Sudbury, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 30, 2010
330 mL Bottle. Copper-ruby body with a thin foamy pale beige head. Rich beery-yeasty aroma of sweet malts, hints of peaches, strawberries, cherries, and alcohol that comes through almost like a sweet wine. This beer tastes very fruity-sweet; strawberries, black cherries, peaches, pineapple, banana, green grapes; the sweetness is a very pleasant fruity and certainly not harsh-sugary that puts me off otherwise. This beer is very heavy-bodied yet it doesn’t impose. Maraschino cherries whisper in the aftertaste followed by a clean fruity finish and a warming port wine-like heat-up. Definitely a sipping beer, a good winter warmer up for coming back from an ice fishing outing.

Bought one 11.2 oz bottle from Front Street Market in Butte, Montana. Pours a brownish red, with very little tan head. Aroma is thin, a little alcohol smell. Taste is malty with hints of fruit, and the alcohol is there too. Smooth and drinkable, well blended. Thumbs up.

Pours dark brown with some red colour and a frothy beige head. Nice aroma of caramel, but not strong. Spices and some dough. Medium sweetness and medium bitterness in the taste, round flavour with notes of spices and raisins. Full body, thick feel, soft carbonation and a medium/long somehow dry after taste. Very good.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2011 This dragon will slay you nicely. Like others have said, the sugar balances the alcohol. Dark caramel with a tinge of red in the chalice. Light licorice and cherry linger in the mouth. It is a full and round. Very enjoyable. Bottle, but enjoyed in a chalice.

Backstory: The legendary Gulden Draak. Everything you have heard about it is true. Once you pop the cap, a slight roar from the dragon hisses out from the depths of the white bottle. As the smoke rises from the top, it forms a dragons head as it flows away into the distance.
Rating: Pours small head that retains. Very interesting beer. Completely different. Bitterness is right up front but the taste quickly fades. Overall really good beer. Would buy again.
