COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

What can I say about this beer that hasn’t already been said. 11.2 oz bottle served in a goblet. Beer is dark brown, nearly black, nice head, steady carbonation. Beautiful ether smell associated with strong Belgians. Taste is sweet and balanced alcohol. No hint of roasting in the flavors, except maybe slightly. One of my all time favorite beers. Excellent, you have to try this beer. Serving type: bottle

Very strong liquorice-like taste amonst toffee-caramel and warm cherry flavors. Interestind evolution when served around 4 degrees and letting it temper until around 12 degrees taking it gradually from sweet flavors to warm alcohol bliss... brings scotch ale and barley wine to mind which to me is directly linked to very good memories

What a great warming beer this is. Sugar syruppy, great aroma. Surprised it took me this long to try it.

10/11/2010 - 33cl bottle @ brewery

Dark brown pretty clear beer with a ruby glare. Off-white to beige head, creamy and adhesive. Aroma: sweet and sugary, dried plums, chocolate, caramel, ripe cherries, cherry liquor, just lots of alcohol too. MF: ok carbon, full round body, creamy almost oily texture. Taste: chocolate, mocha, dried fruits, spices, red berries, a hint of wood. Aftertaste: more red berries, mocha, a sour touch, licorice. Aaah yes, must have been one of the first dark beers I ever had, have been a fan for years now!

Looks fantastic in the glass, soft opaque brown with a murky texture. Carbon explodes on the tongue with nice fruity undertones. Alcohol disappears fast leaving a malty taste on the palate. Great beer, one of my favourite Belgians.

Bottle. Poured a darker amber orange color with a smaller head. Aroma was bread, malts , and caramel. Medium body, higher carbonation. Sticky oily mouth feel. Flavor was higher alcohol, metallic, and yeast. very good strong beer.

330ml poured a cloudy opaque brown ale with a tan frothy head that sticks around. Aroma of raisen and brown sugar. Taste a little sweet but great lavor left lingering on the palate. A good strong Belgium tripple.
