GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA May 23, 2008 Dark brown pour, thin white head. The flavors are rich and intense and very well balanced. A caramel sweetness with a bit of candied sugar and malt with a spicy yeast finish. Strong, rich, and smooth--pour another! renffisch (490), london, Greater London, England May 22, 2008 hey, never thought i feed 10,5% strong belgian Ale to someone for breakfast. but it seems to work for heartbroken lithuanians, with a stinking hangover...
nice velvety, musky chestnut aroma. pitch black, no head. sweetest treacle in taste, and a f**k load of alcohol. but hey that was the reason i picked it this morning in the first place :-) mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland May 20, 2008 (Bottle at Cambrinus on 2008-05-19, rated from memory) Dark brown with some hints of red. Small white head. Sweetish nose. Malts in taste. Alcohol can be felt. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA May 19, 2008 Sexy bottle, pours a black color in dim light with a off white head, nice looking beer. Slight alcohol aroma that almost smells like red wine. This beer is very smooth, alcohol noticeable towards the end. Sweet flavor that tastes slightly like red wine and brown sugar but is nicely carbonated to remind you of its beerness. TeamTrappist (363), jericho, New York, USA May 18, 2008 Draft pour. Nice dark brown color with a thin white head. Looks thick and inviting. Strong malt nose, with a med-full bodied flavor. Tastes of hops and some toffee flavors, with a a fairly strong alcohol bite. Had a bottle a while back which had a much strong alcohol bite, but this draft had much less bite.Maybe some aging would help mellow the bite? A very good strong ale. BorksBabe (81), Tampa, Florida, USA May 18, 2008 Sweet aroma of fruit and honey. Dark amber in color. Flavor is of molasses and barley. A Nice barley-wine type ale- had it on tap. Smooth on the palate. Overall I like it! markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA May 16, 2008 This beer pours a murky cola color with about two fingers worth of vigorous, rocky head. It smells like sugar, dark fruit, and a hint of cinnamon. It tastes like a rich toffee with hop bitterness in the swallow and finish. It warms as it goes and leaves a significant finish with alcohol throughout. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2008 Pours a little murky brown color with hardly any head. Aroma of sweet candy sugar, dates and figs, brown sugar. Flavor is also very sweet and complex with a nice alcohol warming sensation within.
