JimGorePFTN (8), Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, USA does not count Apr 20, 2008 Bottle acquired from Brussels distributor via direct-to-home shipment. A great example of the dark brown tripel. Thick, meringue head with staying power. Nose of raisins, toffee, and alcohol. Taste is rich, but surprisingly balanced and crisp, not cloying. Long, warm alcohol finish. This is the brew for fireside chats on a crisp autumn evening. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Apr 18, 2008 Appearance: Pours a hazy, dark brown body with a huge, frothy, off-white head.
Smell: Full aroma brings forth notes of dark caramel malt, plums (and prunes), dark candi sugar, and even brown sugar. You can smell that alcohol lurking in there, too, along with a noticeable sourness.
Taste: Sugar-infused caramel maltiness. A distinct fruitiness delivers a taste of stewed plums. Dash of brown sugar liqueur, if there was such a thing. Small hint of dried banana chips. Sour yeastiness. Warming finish with lingering tastes of fruit and sugar.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body with some chewiness to it. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s a tripel wrapped in a +2 Cloak of Maltiness. For that, it’s okay, as long you don’t mind the high level of sweetness and glaring alcohol presence. Ando (105), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Apr 15, 2008 *did not mind would not buy*
smell: fruits nanners sweets. typical. to many nanners maybe.. maybe.
app: fine. nice ruby garnet hues to a lite brown ale. flavor: tastes much more gold then it looks, i was wanting more dark fruit flavors. its a fine ale. down the middle lacks magic. this is like a bud for a gnome. palate: could be more fluffy. OA: its good, ok average so so. Imperial-John (154), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2008 Patented white bottle with cool dragon. Had at Beer Bistro and Rhino, great deal for the kick. Reddish brown with off-white thick head that reduces quickly. Not as sweet as many Belgian darks like Kasteel, Gouden Carolus, or Dutch Koningshaeven. More bubbly than these with the same caramel malt fruitcake taste. slang (392), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Apr 14, 2008 bottled. Awesome hazy brown belgian w/ all that classical shit like bubblegum & banana bread. A very strong beer that balances the sugary, the yeasty, & the boozy very well. Delicious! BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Apr 14, 2008 nice brown body with can’t head. More of an amber really. A rich sweet malty body with a hint of caramel. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Apr 12, 2008 Poured a rich and murky chestnut brown, with a voluminous head that vanished oh so quickly. The aroma is a mosh pit of dark and tropical fruits, grapes, brown sugar, hard pie spices, really growing on me. The flavor is surprisingly balanced, but does finish with a wonderfully fruity sweetness. I really like this one. Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA Apr 11, 2008 good pour with a huge slow to go away head ... light aroma of sweet malt .... maybe my nose is screwed up but I’m having a hard time picking up the aromas I anticipated ... very sweet fruity ... NICE, but a little too sweet for me
