Pours a dark brown with a creamy white head. Has aromas of toffee, fruit, and a little hops. Nice full bodied flavor of sweet toffee malt and fruit. Has the body of a fortified wine and finishes with a sweetness upon the palate.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 stretchfest (76) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 22, 2010
Pours an enormous head. Smells of alcohol, toffee, cherry, raisins, and nuts. The color is a nice sepia brown with a tan head. Alcohol is very up front on the tongue but doesn’t overpower the sweetness. Very full-bodied, I would consider this a dessert wine, perfect for after meals.

Pours a dark nearly opaque amber with a nice pale head. Aroma is very fruity, a mixture of raisin, molasses, and maybe cherry? This beer is lively but not over-carbonated - it had a steady stream of bubbles throughout.
Taste is intense. A heavy alcohol mixed with sour cherry and yet a little on the sweet side. Body is heavy, you can almost chew this one. Almost no bitter, not even at the end. The finish is a long lasting alcohol warmth.
I’m not one for tripels but this one is a keeper. Not too sweet, not too bitter. Overall, this is a really good example of a dark tripel.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Machapuchare (4) - USA - JUL 17, 2010 does not count
This is a very interesting beer. the aroma was dominated by fruit and fortified wine. There was a very malty aroma with little or no contributon from the hops. The apearance was dark and moody, almost opaque with a frothy, medium tan head that was full of belgian lace. When you drink this beer, the most immeadiate thing you experience is an intense, malty taste that is very similar to a port or madiera. It has an underlying taste of heavy alchohol that makes it definitely a sipping beer. the finish is a short but moderately intense bitterness that is the first and only appearance of hop notes in the beer. The body is definitely very full, with a creamy/thick texture to the beer. A nice option for after dinner drinks.

Corked bottle. Pours an average amber with an almost lifeless body (there was no "pop" when I pulled the cork so I think this bottle is on the flat side). A slight head of off-white/tan develops after a few moments of pouring. Aroma is raisin soaked in wet leaves and plumb pudding, with hints of plastic fruits (plumb, cherry) in the background. Flavor is very blunt and sharp at the same time, with buttery raisin, spicy malt leaves, a touch of nutmeg, and tangy cheese in the finish. Kinda woodsy but in a rotted-wood-covered-in-wild-mushrooms- fresh-after-a-good-autumn rain way. Average mouthfeel. As I said, I believe this bottle is flat so I’ll buy another and compare.

Pours medium brown with a medium, foamy off-white head. Nose is mostly a dubbel-type blend of abbey yeast, brown sugar, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is quite strong and has the above elements, with the malt dominating. Alcohol is also very up-front. Finish is short and yeasty. A very solid abbey quad.
