COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Pours amber brown with a big, fluffy, off-white head. Nose is a strong malt character with caramel, chocolate, ripe fruits, coke syrup, some spice, a small amount of limey citrus. Mouth is odd. Initially nutty and then coats the mouth with chocolate, caramel, overipe fruit followed by some mustiness and alcohol and a hint of liquorice on the swallow with lingering bitter chocolate and some earthiness in the aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel and leaves an oily coating. Not to pleasant...

330ml bottle. Pours dark brown with hint of red and tan head that lingers as a film to the end. Aroma is very sweet - tons of malts and candi sugars. Slight aroma of fruit and alcohol. Taste is heavier alcohol than the aroma suggests. The 10.5% really isn’t hidden all that well behind the sugars and malts. Beer is very fizzy and finishes very sweet and sticky. Not my cup o’ tea but still not a bad malty beverage.

Served in bottle at the Bulldog off Lyndale. Poured into a tulip glass. excellent head that did not retreat for quite a while. Dark brown n color. light colored head. Very smooth sweet fruit taste. Mouthfeel is lighter than expected for a darker beer Sipper for sure.

Enjoyed it but found it to be a little on the sweet side. Alcohol was on the forefront and was almost overwhelming by the bottom of the bottle. Nothing special with regard to color, consistency, or flavor. The opaque white bottle is cool, though.

750 ml bottle. A hazy very dark red to medium brown beer with a large, frothy. mostly lasting light brown head. The aroma is moderately malty and lightly yeasty with notes of tosted bread, caramel, dugar, dark fruits and alcohol. The flavour is heavily sweet, lightly sour, lightly bitter. Very liquer like. Full body, soft carbonation, very long finish with light to medium bitterness, moderately alcoholic. Maybe on the sweet side for my palate, but very interesting, good aromas, flavourful, with a not excessive alcoholic feel.

Dark brown-red with a medium-size, creamy head. Lots of toffee, caramel and fruits in the aroma. Sweet, but not cloying. Very full and chewy mouthfeel.
