Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Poured a deep ruby color with a thick tan head. Aromas of sweet malts, fruits and yeast. Flavor is the same as the aromas - sweet, malty and yeasty. Very nice. It starts off malty and finishes with a slight flavor of hops and a metallic taste. The alcohol is well hidden for a 10.5% beer. Full body with a thick, creamy texture and lively carbonation. I will definately have this one again.

From bottle. Sweet fruit in the aroma. Plums maybe. Ruby in colour with a decent lively head. Frothy and crisp. Bitter sweet detail with hint of plum. Little spice thrown in. Surprisingly enjoyable considering the strength. Tangy ale, enjoyable.

Pours a dark brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is of sweet malt and very fruity, with scents of grapes, apples, apricot and cherry. It reminded me of red wine. Flavor is very malty and of high bitterness, but the sweet flavor balanced everything to make it a nice experience. Thick texture and average - soft carbonation, full bodied!

Dark red pour with nice tan head that fades fast. Aroma of hot cinnamon apple and sweet malt. This is some very interesting stuff. Tastes like a caramel and hot cinnamon apple, or apricot, very rich. Not a whole lot of balance. Carbonation is so much it makes it hard to swallow. Belgian barley wine seems to make sense here.

On tap at Three Floyds Brewpub and served in a Gulden Draak tulip. This beer poured a dark brown with a tan head that slowly settled into a thin, lasting cap. A small amount of slick, oily lacing was left around the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of dark fruits, candi sugar, cloves, apricot, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor consisted of sweet candi sugar, caramel, dark fruits, earthy yeast notes, and mild, warming alcohol. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and slick with moderate carbonation. A very rich beer that was surprisingly easy to drink. Maybe just a bit on the sweet side.

Pours a muddy, tawny light brown into the trappist glass with an inch of light tan head. Scents of malt, dark fruits and some earthy tones dominate. A very strong, noticiable boozy taste with some yeast, caramel, malt and dired fruits coming through. As the beer warmed, the alcohol was almost too apparent and I had to struggle to finish.
