COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

A wonderful rusty raisin colour invites you into this light beige topped monster of potency. A nasal inspection of this delightful concoction reveals note of caramel, burnt toffee, raisins, tobacco, vanilla, banana streusel and bubblegum. For all of those booming aromas happening you’d think this would be a saccharine bomb but it is balanced out enough and finishes quite dry with a bittersweet lingering. The texture is strange, not overly carbonated, in fact quite relaxed but there is a jazzy zing on the tongue with every sip. An excellent beer that commands your attention while the alcohol subtly sneaks up on you.

Fajnie opakowane, wyjątkowo pijalne, choć alkohol zbyt wyraźnie moim zdaniem wyczuwalny.

A strong ale, poured a high foamy head. Taste is a bit on the sour side, with no hint of sweetness. It was unusual but I don’t think it was worth the high price at the beer store.

1/6 in a sample pack by the brewer. Deep amber pour, tan foam head with minor lacing. Boozy, yeasty, not bad. A bit of an odd fruity flavour, maybe from the wine yeasts.
