3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a clear amber/brown with a thick tan head...heavy lacing. Aroma has quite a bit of dark fruit...raisin, fig, black cherry. Flavor follows suit and adds a mild earthy hop note as well as caramel and burnt toffee...notable candy sugar flavor. Mouthfeel is medium / full and silky with a dry earthy dark fruit/mild leather finish that warms.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Butelka, Pod Mosteczkiem, warki nie zapisalem, ale swieza. Wysoka ale bardzo szybko sie redukujaca do kozuszka trwalego, kremowa piana. Piekna, miedziano-rubinowa , ciemna barwa. Aromaty intensywne, glownie owocowe - wisnie, sliwki, maliny, jezyny... tez rodzynki. na drugim planie alkohol winno-likierowy, przyjemny, slodowosc, jakies nutki kawy, karmelu. W smaku tez owoce ewidentne, alkohol z nimi skomponowany i pozytywnie odbierany, rozgrzewajacy, troszke karmelu czy moze cukru lekko skarmelizowanego. Slodki. Wyczuwalna acz delikatna goryczka. wysycenie dosc wysokie.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from bottle, dark amber with low off white head. Aroma complex with notes of dark bread, dried fruit and spices. Taste is bitter sweet with big body and sweetish after taste. I normally love belgian and trappist beer, but this did not sit well with me.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2015 Gulden Draak (Golden Dragon) is the kind of badass name that raises high expectations. The distinct white bottle is well-known among craft beer’s many Belgian fanatics. In short, I wanted a lot from this beer, and I got a lot out of it. For all its popularity, it’s difficult to say just what the hell Gulden Draak is. The brewery has called it a Barleywine and a Dark Trippel over the years. The beer rating sites tend to call it a Belgian Strong (Dark) Ale. I can’t do anything but add to the noise, but I’ll say this: shit’s good. Draak pours reddish brown with a large, tan head. Aroma has candied dark fruit, champagne-like yeast esters, and robust malt. In the flavor, there’s vinous grape, berry, cherry, raisin, prune, plum, oak, citrusy hops, rich malt, caramel, and syrup. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy; finish is bone dry. This brew is insanely complex and would make a superb companion to a fine meal.

3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A- Cherries, mixed berries, banana, woody, subtle chocolate, slightly sour, champagne.
A- Dark reddish brown color, dark liquid, light brown head.
T- Subtle sour cherries, slightly tart, champagne, wood, funky.
P- Medium body, average texture, very high carbonation, effervescent finish.
O- The aromas and appearance of this beer are second to none. Unfortunately the taste did not meet that expectation I first had at the initial pour. The taste was about like the aroma but also had some weird flavor I could not pick up on. Just didn’t sit well. A pretty solid beer overall, but not worth the $18 a bomber price.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance is dark brown/ruby, a big two-finger foamy, clingy, light beige head. This one couldn’t wait to get out of the bottle. Aroma- loads of dark fruit in this- cherries, grape juice, sweet raisin, yeast, bread, a bit vinous, nutty and a bit of cardboard. Taste- bready, malty, almonds, cherries, raisin and sultana, banana, a hint of sweetness. Fluffy mouthfeel, with quite a long, slightly sweet finish. Alcohol is pretty much hidden. Very nice.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Right after opening the bottle the initial taste was not that great. After a while the taste gets better. Complex taste with alcohol, cough drop, hint of caramel, nuts. Nice dark brown color, liquid is cloudy and sparkling. Minimal head, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, full body and thick feel. Beer is fizzy with long finish. This beer was not my favorite. Need to try this again later.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Undated 330 ml bottle from a Belgian sampler 6-pack served in a Porter Bar goblet.
The beer poured with a moderate size tan head that quickly settles to a lasting but irregular tan top coat with a thick ring. The liquid is a clear near-opaque orange-brown that has a reddish-orange glow when backlit.
S - Moderately strong, sweet aroma is primarily fruity, yeasty and malty, with a pronounced raisin note. Very appealing and with little hint of the high ABV.
T - Sweet, but with a faint bitterness. I suspect this sweetness helps make the alcohol largely disappear. Rich and complex, with plenty of dark fruit from mid-taste on, and traces of spices including cinnamon. A fine flavor mix that changes with temperature and from the start of a sip to the finish. A tiny bit too much sourness in the finish for my taste, but I know many other aficionados like this effect, and the finish remains a bit sweet nonetheless.
M - good, if somewhat high, carbonation helps produce an excellent mouthfeel that is neither too heavy nor too light. Very smooth, Finish is a bit less dry than I’d expect given the ABV.
O - an excellent Belgian dark tripel (or BSDA). Good enough to be a reasonable inclusion if you ever get the chance to do a side-by-side taste test of world-class Belgians; I wouldn’t expect it to win, but it wouldn’t be out of place and is usually less expensive (vs., say Chimay, Delirium or Rochefort) in the US.
