COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Klasszikus!

judasbeer (431) - Budapest, HUNGARY - FEB 22, 2010
Appearance: Deep amber look with coppery and maroon hues. Half-finger sized, airy-textured, brownish head. Lively, huge effervescence.
Aroma: Lots of peppery phenolic notes on the nose beside the evidently sweet, liqueur-soaked fig-like malty backbone. Definite presence of caramel or molasses-syrupy sweet character and some berry tartness after a little time. Not so difficult to detect a solventy smell after a harder swirl:)
Flavor: Sweet dried figs, molasses, dark candi sugar, maple-syrup(?) up front. Vanilla smothness with peppery coriander bite at the middle. Moderate hoppiness aided by peppery yeasty components at the finish.
Mouthfeel/Palate: Syrupy, sweet mouthfeel with insanely high drinkability despite the alcohol. The alcohol is lot more hidden in the flavor than in the aroma. Effervescent texture.
Overall Impression: As a fan of desert-beers i can give a big respect to this brew. The cloying effect is quite tolerable for my palate. Complex, dried fruity, multi-layered flavor-profile with huge spicy yeast presence and the lively carbonation with the smooth alcohol warmth makes a both sessionable and sipping dessert-beer experience. If i can afford it i’d drink it more often!

Bottle at home. Pours a hazy dark reddish brown color with a thick, lasting, foamy, creamy, off-white head with excellent lacing. Lovely appearance. Aroma of fresh bread, yeast, some alcohol, dark fruits, heavy malts and some spice. Well balanced flavor with malts, dark fruits and yeast. Mostly sweet, some bitterness and a bit of an alcohol warmth. Nice brew.

Bottle. Clear amber brown pour with a thick rocky head that leaves behind considerable lacing. Aroma dark fruit, candi sugar, and a subtle spiciness. The taste contains a heavy cloying sweetness, little bitterness and a medium amount of sourness that gives it a nice balance.
