heavy (815), Split, Croatia Oct 29, 2007 25/10 0.33 l bottle at Hopdevil. Wonderful, brown colored body with big white head. Yes, white. Aroma is not very strong, but nice with caramel, fruits and other sweetness, but quite alcoholic as well. Flavor is great, well, not perfect as Rochefort 8 I had just before this, but very full bodied, nice yeasty, with fruity sweetness and some caramel malts, too. Nice finish, where again alcohol is felt. Tripel or strong ale, surely a great beer, thanks a lot Petra for choosing this one. JaPe (69), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2007 Beautiful looking dark beer.. Yummy vanilla and caramel flavors. Feisty carbonation . Not as thick felling as I would have expected from its other qualities fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 26, 2007 This is one of my favorites on draft. A lot of complex fruit aromas and flavors and a rich malty core. goldbrew (99), USA Oct 23, 2007 Updated: Aug 22, 2008A very hot beer. The aroma is decent but not as intense as anticipated, full of sweetness and raisin. Indeed the alcohol is right up front and stays throughout. I appreciate the billowing head with heavy lacing and the beautiful bottling. I like many Belgian strong ales, but in the end it’s the biting alcohol and pummeling spiciness that makes it too tough for me to drink and masks a lot of the complexity that is undoubtedly present. Not a fully enjoyable experience.
Update: On tap, much different experience. Much more maple syrup aroma and complex bready, toffee taste. Also noticed a stronger hop presence than many other Triples/Quads. Sweet but not overly so. I didn’t feel the alcohol heat at all this time, so I write the previous bottle off as a bad one. Bumping up my score here. bonbright7 (173), Bellport, New York, USA Oct 19, 2007 I was taken by surprise with the monster head that formed in my glass, so I poured it gently to produce a drinkable portion. It was my first impression of a brown-tripel with a vibrant alcohol note to it. I found it to be very rich and I agree with the previous poster who mentioned barleywine as a likeness. juiceisloose (644), Windermere, Florida, USA Oct 19, 2007 Had this on draft at the Abbey bar in Deland. This poured a deep marron color with medium foamy white head that left behind nice lacing. The aroma was of sweet malts, dark fruits, and some caramel. The taste was much the same with the dark fruits and sweetness coming through. It had a little bit of carbonation and some nice alcohol warmth on the way down. This was medium bodied and creamy on the palate. It finished sweet with caramel and some slight hop bitterness in the background. This was pretty good, pretty close to a barley wine. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Oct 18, 2007 From bottle : A dark brown color pour with a big foamy white head that has nice lacing around the glass. Nose of cider and apples, along with various other fruits and small malt undertones. Medium body on the palate that goes down smooth with bubbles. Fruity taste as with most belgians, with alcohol dominating the end. smartlung (154), Valrico, Florida, USA Oct 15, 2007 I like this one! Clear with creamy head. Pretty light and fruity. Very nice mouthfeel. I can drink this all day
