Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

A ruby claret colour. Nose of berries yeast and noticeable alcohol. The beer has a medium body with a soft mouth feel. The taste is noticeably sweet but with a dry hoppiness. Not as accomplished as Duvel.

Bottle. Pours deep amber / brown. Beige head. Lacing. Aroma is dark fruits with malt. Taste is sweet / plums / spices. Finish is smooth with a nice bitterness. Can become cloying if drunk too slowly.

Awesome bottle. Pours a dark red, almost black, with a nice thin, but lasting head. The taste is a nice mellow fruit, some apple cinnamon taste, a great bitter hop finish, and almost no notice of how strong it is. All hail the golden dragon!

Great pour! Dark, murky brown with garnet highlights and a full, creamy, beige head with excellentlasting ability and lots of nice lace. Nose is fruity and spicy but not quite as potent as I would have thought; ripe red apples, figs, spicy yeast, and pie crust notes with cinnamon and nutmeg. Flavor is extremely rich with similar notes; rich caramels, red apple, fig, spicy yeast, baking spices, and maybe a bit of maple. Palate is nearly full, round, velvety, almost chewy and soft. Finishes long and mostly sweet with apples, rich malt tones, and pie crust notes with a mild alcohol warmth. Certainly nice and unique with great fruit notes and rich, malt tones. Not as complex as it could have been but everything was put together very well. It almost becomes to sweet and cloying at times but the spicy notes keeps it somewhat balanced. Intriguing, unexpected and did I mention rich.

33 cl bottle. Sweet, a bit grainy. A fine sourness that balances a bit, but it comes across as a tit too toffee sweet. Vinous, warming.

on tap at sharp edge. pours a dark brown with a thinnish tan head. huge nose with dark fruits and spices knocking around. great taste with plum and other dark and bitter fruits mixed with a tasty (coriander?) spice. slightly heavier than medium bodied with a fair carbonation that finished with a tiny tingle of bitterness mixed with a tinier tingle of sweetness. a very tasty beer that got more complex and fruitier as it warmed.

Pours a cloudy brown that has a big touch of amber to it. Minimal head. Nose is slight with a lean towards marshmallows. Touch of citrus. Flavor is very well balanced with a strong sweet tone that stays constant. Strong and steady. After a while you get a slight alcohol tone that has stayed masked consistently as you drink. Tons of things rolling over your tongue on this one. Caramel is another. Mouthfeel is a bit too high on the carbonation, which drops the drinkability just a touch. Overall damn good. Worth trying. Worth trying again.
