madquacker (707), Canberra ACT, Australia Jul 14, 2007 Poured a solid woody brown. A big solid ale that got better with some breathing. The high alcohol content was not that obvious. Very complex and moreish. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 13, 2007 The notoriuos Draak! On tap at the Sharp Edge Bistro, nice place. Pour is like rootbeer. Clear and dark brown. Has a creamy head that fades to a froth after a few minutes.. Aroma is laid back and clean, not hint of the 10% that lurks within. As a matter of fact, there is very little aroma at all. The taste however is a big alky kick in the pants. Mouth and throat warming. Strong and I can feel it making its way down to my tummy. Alky presence is up front, however, it is not the in your face kind of impact, more refined. Like good sherry or brandy. Pretty flat in appearance and on the palate. Each sip brings that hard initial alky smack. It is strong at the beginning of the sip but then morphs to a delicate coating sweetness of bananas and candy. Finish leaves a medium malty bitterness that is hard to forget. Quite a brew with quite a unique impact. NCsparkster (12), High Point, North Carolina, USA Jul 12, 2007 Updated: Jul 15, 2007Deep, reddish brown with a coffee-froth head that mostly disappears. The nose is like the inside of an apple pie: baked apples and cinnamon (you could also compare it to cider). It’s somewhat like sparkling grape juice in its lightly sweet taste, carbonation, and comparable, somewhat herbal bite. In the aftertaste, this bite progresses into a light burning/warmth at the back of the throat. It was hard for me to directly pick out the alcohol in this beer, but I think it just kinda "teamed up" with that herbal quality I experienced, and that’s where I missed it. Not a bad beer, at all, though not my style. I don’t normally like the sweet, spicy, warming kind of brews. I’m more of a big, grainy beer guy, but I could tell, quite clearly, how well-crafted this beer is. Kirill (264), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 10, 2007 very good strong ale, i "ate" it like the commercial description said. bittersweet but not too much. i would have liked the taste stronger though jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 7, 2007 Pours a deep mahogany color with a slight red hue when held up to the light. On tap at the brickstore finishing up the night. The fruit flavors and aromas where what I noticed here. One sip I got strawberry and cherry, the next I got more plum and malt. Very complex flavors and aromas. sinkas (182), Perth/Fremantle, Australia Jul 2, 2007 Everthing from the nordic artwork on the lable, to the barleywine aromas and flavours are sublime. A truly outstanding brew. Wolfenstein (96), Sarasota, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2007 I had the opportunity to taste this gem in Brugge. It was recommended by a local. Poured thick and dark. Mild aroma, but a thick, hoppy palate with a nice finish. Overall a great brew.
onlyrocknroll (218), Cork, Ireland Jun 27, 2007 Pours wonderfully, a dark red-brown colour with a great head. Disappointingly mild aroma. Sweet palate with some burnt flavours, some raisins. Decent, but thats all.
