Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Splendid! Pours a deep, opaque brown with a very thick and remarkably persistent head. Aroma is malty and inviting. Flavor is strong but not fierce, with sweet overtone like molasses and some smoky hints, and just a dash of bitterness. Jazzy and tingly, this is a beer one should sip and savor.

From 330 ml sampler bottle pour red to brown with a nice fat off-white head and good lacing. Nose of citrus hops, fruit, caramel malts and spices. Smooth and rich mouthfeel. Flavor is slightly sweet and finish is slightly bitter. Alcohol hidden well.

Intens brown beer with red highlights and with good off white head. aroma is caramel like, malty, slight spicey with touches of porto and some dried fruits. Taste is rich, powerful and sweet with hints of peppercake, bread and some hop bitters. A nice blockbusterbeer with a dangerous dosis of alcohol.

Appearance: dark brown redish. Beautiful head, big size, dense, persistence and with big adherence to glass. Aroma: sweety malty, candy, liquory and with presence of yeast. Touches of citric fruit, honey and vanilla. Reminiscences of sponge cake. Complex. Flavor: Sweet start with warming alcoholic finish. Similar to aroma, fruity, malty, liquory, candy and with touches of honey and vanilla. Reminiscences of apricots and plums. Palate: Medium body, warm sensation and viscous texture. Medium carbonation. Good and beautiful beer. (sorry for my english)

Thick that you can actually eat? Hmmm I wonder if they poured me the right beer. What I had smelled very sweet like raisens and maple. The taste was complex, but I was expecting it to be much heavier for a belgian strong. It has a very tangy sweetness that I do not find to my liking. Interesting, but I wont order it again.

From a bottle in Reston. I thought this was interesting. Pretty heavy with a very sweet and alcoholic taste. Very effervescent (sp?). If you’re a fan of Belgians you’d definitely like this, if you’re not it probably will underwhelm you. The stuff about this beer being that thick is unfounded, this beer is actually very refreshing in my opinion

6/9/07: Sample at Columbus Ale Fest ’07.
Raisin nose. Medium brown body with loads o’ tan lace. Full flavor packed with alcohol and raisin. Sweet malt and caramel. Tingly on the tongue. Clean finish.

Sweet and tangy malt aroma. Dark brown color with a large off white head. Starts off slightly sweet. Alcohol is mildy noticable. Finishes smooth and creamy.
