COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Chocolade-rozijnen, groene thee en vanille als aroma. De smaak is van sterk kaliber, zoete kruidige tonen, vrij complex om te omschrijven, met lange afdronk, waarin het weinige bitter nog meer balans brengt. Stevige kraag.

This is a good solid Belgian style beer. Not the barley wine as described. What drops it lower than other/greater belgians is the lighter flavor and detectable alcohol

An interesting beer. Pours a clear, deep copper. Nose of biscuit malt and fruit (banana, fig, plum). Flavor is quite alcohlic and unpleasant and works to hide the ripe fruit (peach) flavors that I can just detect. Fairly sweet and full bodied.

Beautiful, reddish brown beer with a big and beige head. Aroma is concentrated, sweet with dark fruits, plums, raisins, some warming alcohol, yeast and hint of bananas. Taste is also dark fruity, raisins, not very much of sweetness, aftertaste is slightly roasted and herbal, almost dry, warming alcohol without alcohol taste. Almost full bodied, but not sticky or sugary, lots of carbonation, that fitts nicely for this beer. Typically, dark fruity flavours, nice and tastefull beer.

Countbeer (1686) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - DEC 19, 2011
Bottle: Medium white head on top of a hazy darker orange amber to lightly brown colored beer. Smell is spicy, fruity, some yeast, hints of malts and dark fruits. Taste is good malty, bitter, spicy, dark fruity, hoppy, yeasty, caramel, bit warm of the alcohol and some light sweets. Nice bitter spicy light fruity light dry aftertaste. Medium to fuller carbo, tingly lively mouthfeel, full body and a texture between creamy and watery.

Really well balanced considering the 10.5%alc/vol. The caramel malt and the alcohol hit at the same time followed by a deep warming flavour. Some fruit and coffee to follow. Very impressed and will definitely get it again.

Light brown in colour with no head. Aroma is treacle, malt, spices. Sweet on the palate and slightly sticky. Taste is brown sugar, molasses, dark fruits. Tasty.
