jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA May 8, 2007 Suprisingly good to me...ya, I know it’s really sweet - but it seemed to work for this one. Tasted some plums, raisins, and caramel type stuff goin on. Couldn’t detect any of the 10.5% and it had a nice smooth palate. Only knock is that any flavor in the aftertaste was gone, gone, gone in seconds. But the mouthfeel was there...much enjoyed. Cheers J! hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA May 8, 2007 750ml bottle. Nice dark mohogany color with a huge amazing vanilla head. Very nice lacing throughout the entire glass. Aromatic notes of raisins, banana and Beligian malt. Cant believe this is considered a tripel. Shared my bottle with jarspag. Good stuff! I can honestly say I was not expecting this good of a beer that is so commonly seen in our area. Flavor of raisins, caramel, and figs.
Palate finishes well, quite smooth and silky. The high alcohol content is quite subtle, very well hidden. I enjoyed this one a lot. dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA May 7, 2007 11.2 oz bottle. Poured a slightly murky brown with red hghlights and a huge white head that left lacing down the entire glass. Aroma is sweet malt with dark fruits and only a hint of alcohol coming through. Flavor is excellent with dark fruit, belgian yeast, and where I would expect some peppery spiciness it instead is a pleasant sweetnes. Great beer overall. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark May 3, 2007 Dark brown with a huge, nice and lasting head. The aroma is malty with lots of dark fruit, nuts and alcohol. The mouthfeel is oily and full. The flavour is sweet with notes of alcohol, dark fruits (figs, raisins and more) and the finish is rahter dry. The overall impression is rather heavy, but nice. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 27, 2007 Updated: Sep 30, 2008330 ml. Pours dark brown-red, with a huge bubbly, fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is brandy and raisins. Taste is mostly alcohol with some spicy hops and dark fruit-gum sweetness mixed in. Palate is dry, very tongue-tingling and medium-bodied. Quality brew, but I prefer the alcohol not so "revealed" in a beer. oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium Apr 27, 2007 Updated: Oct 11, 2007One of my favoured beers. A very nice dark ale. Although it is 10,5 % you do not taste the alcohol of this good bodied bier. A must for every beer lover mj (4971), Colorado, USA Apr 25, 2007 330cl bottle. Medium dark brown colored body with a toasty tan colored head. Lovely soft peppery brown sugar yeast nose, creamy and full texture, smooth and chewy. Lightly peppery brown sugar and cream flavor, heavy with the yeast esters, some toffee, vanilla and wood. A wonderful Belgian ale. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2007 This one is strong enough that I can feel where I bit my cheek! The alcohol is obvious and it almost has a listerine quality but luckily it has some dark raisin toffee flavors which make it interesting. I don’t find it too thick, more like a medium texture with residual dryness that seems to distract me from the fruit flavors which are moving around. Where does the wood flavor come from? If I was a monk fasting for Lent, I could see where this one has vitamins and nourishment or perhaps the alcohol would make me forget my hunger?
