mj (4973), Colorado, USA Apr 25, 2007 330cl bottle. Medium dark brown colored body with a toasty tan colored head. Lovely soft peppery brown sugar yeast nose, creamy and full texture, smooth and chewy. Lightly peppery brown sugar and cream flavor, heavy with the yeast esters, some toffee, vanilla and wood. A wonderful Belgian ale. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2007 This one is strong enough that I can feel where I bit my cheek! The alcohol is obvious and it almost has a listerine quality but luckily it has some dark raisin toffee flavors which make it interesting. I don’t find it too thick, more like a medium texture with residual dryness that seems to distract me from the fruit flavors which are moving around. Where does the wood flavor come from? If I was a monk fasting for Lent, I could see where this one has vitamins and nourishment or perhaps the alcohol would make me forget my hunger? BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Apr 22, 2007 Poured from a 500ml bottle into a tulip glass, deep amber with a medium tan head. The aroma was of malt and dark fruit. There was a lot of sweetness up front in the taste, with plum and fruit and malt. There was an off-putting after taste that I could not quite put my finger on. Carl99Fan (186), Suwanee, Georgia, USA Apr 20, 2007 Pours toffee brown with two finger off white head...lacing present. A good representation of this style. Medium dry to sweet flavor. A nice representation of the style. Complex brew. Alcohol well hidden. spectrex26 (9), Naples, Florida, USA does not count Apr 19, 2007 Bottle: Pours a dark red brown with large, lasting head. Doughy scent at first, sweet, malty like a caramel, with a lighter hop smell. The flavor is sweet, bit of wood, and what came off as date or raisin. The yeast is also present of course. Not bad overall. Sweet finish with a sweet dried fruit flavor. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2007 On tap at Sharp Edge Creekhouse. Dark orange pour with a thick pillowy tan head. Aroma of fruit and yeast. Taste was a beautiful (dare I say) medely? of dark fruit and yeasty malt kick. Nice thick mouthfeel that coats your throat. Almost tastes creamy. Spices and sugar in the aftertaste. Veeve (312), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Apr 16, 2007 on tap at Eulogy Belgian Tavern in Philly. not a fan I have to say. I think becuase the flavors are too bold, confrontational and overwhelming. the light straw-yellow, well-carbonated body complete with bubbly white head is total misleading from the very very SPICY flavors that consists of strong, solid hops, vegetables and dirt. I couldn’t come close to drinking a pint so my description will stop there. it was like drinking liquid pepper. good luck with this one. FLnative80 (174), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 13, 2007 Bottle. 11.2 fl. oz. Very cool bottle. Murky, dark amber color with a foamy, off-white head. Powerful, sweet, malty aroma. Full bodied, lively palate with a lengthy finish. Sugary sweet flavor that sticks to the back of your tongue. Good brew.
