COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

A dark triple? Strong dark fruity aroma with lots of alcohol. Thin head, deep orange color. Flavor is in line with aroma.

Bottle in São Paulo (with my good friend Itamar Cunha) - It is dark hazy brown beer with a light tan head. Strong carbonation, with aroma of dried fruits, alcohol hints (and sweet taste as well). A good beer after all!

330ml bottle poured into 500ml Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark hazy brown, almost black, medium tan head that dissipates quickly, but leaves a very thin head for most of the drink. Lots of carbonation, making it feel creamy, decent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dried fruits, especially raisins, lots of yeast, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor just didn’t come together as well as I was hoping, but a decent drink nonetheless.

Sample at the Aleksey Portfolio Show. Caramel, butter, and malt nose. Flavor of caramel and malt. Slightly metallic finish.

I gently pour the squat white bottle into my glass and out pours a dark brown-redish liquid with minimal head. The scent is unbelievably sweet. It smells like cotton candy with a hint of scotch. That’s a good thing. The flavor is very spicy. Sweet orange juice flavors with a caramel tone. I can tell it’s 10.5 abv but it’s not offputting. The mouthfeel is lighter then I expected with lots of carbonation. I’m halfway through my glass and I’m already feeling warm all over. This beer will kick your ass if you don’t pay attention. A sipper for sure.

Bottle. Beer pours a dark amber with a creamy white head. The nose is full of yeast with a hint of farmhouse funk and booze. The taste is a mix of booze yeast and over ripe dark fruit.

This little white bottle contains a monster. Deep brown opaque ale with a tan head. Aroma is burnt caramel, light spiced fruits, earth, yeasty and boozey sugar cane. Rich flavors of toffee, raisins, prunes, spices, yeast, and light chocolate with alcohol presented in the sweet finish. Initially hides then flaunts the alcohol, smooth with a chewy mouthfeel.

What strikes me right away is a carbonated pour, but dissipates quickly to a thin head. Gorgeous color of ruby / deep copper. Nose is light, but you can tell there’s sweetness there. Taste is very much the same, with a sweet viscous palate and a bit of alcohol. Sugary, caramel, dried fruit. High carbonation on this one. Tasty and solid performer.
