Poured to my fest/wine glass a hazy, deep brown tone with a modest, off white/light tan head that reduced to a ring and film, and left some light lacing. The aroma was toasty, brown sugar sweetness, dark fruit, and some caramel. The flavor was the same strong notes, with a thick, syrupy texture, light, almost imperceptible bitterness, and warming alcohol. Maybe a little too sweet for me, but still very tasty. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2009 Bottle poured into a tulip. Poured a dark brown with big frothy off-white head. Aroma of big dark fruit, yeasty sweet bread, and booze. Taste threw me off, not what the aroma led me to believe it would be. Taste was a lot of apple, grape, and raisins. Sweet sticky mouthfeel, syrupy and boozy. A good quad, although VERY sweet. BroSpud (594), , Massachusetts, USA

I found the alcohol to be overpowering to the point that it masked all the other flavors that might have been present. I can see that I am in the minority here though. drowland (1380), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
