COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gulden Draak is a high fermentation beer with secondary fermentation. For the secondary fermentation, wine yeast is used. The white bottle, the black banner, the golden dragon and the red letters, constitute a stylish result that has no equal among the many Belgian special beers. Gulden Draak can be drunk as an aperitif or dessert, or whenever you have the time to sit back and relax. But this barley wine is also perfect with and in stews, especially the Ghent variety. It is also a plus in sauces for red meat, such as a bordelaise. It is particularly suited as a dessert beer, especially in combination with dark chocolate.

Bottle at De Planck. Dark red brown with a beige head. Aroma is caramel sweet, roasted malt. Taste is sweet and strong, with lots of toffee and caramel. Finishes with a lingering sweetness. Lovely, and deliciously drinkable.

33cl bottle, tulip glass. Pours a dark cloudy brown with an off-white head. Smells of yeast, some dried fruits, and caramel malt. In the taste, the alcohol hits first, and warms up to a sweet sense of brown sugar, fruit and malt backed with a reasonably solid hops character. Medium-bodied, high carbonation, creamy smooth, and finishes with a mild fruitiness.

dark brown color with medium brown head. fruity scents and in the flavor the alcohol doesn’t play a role so the fruity character lasts in the aftertaste too.

pours a deep red/chestnut with a tanned head. nice lacing on the glass. aroma is alcohol, coffee, dark fruits and caramel. boom! initially, the alcohol masks a lot of the flavours, but, the taste is deep and rich, there are some dark fruits, liquorice, coffee, metallic and bitter notes. more like a quad than a strong ale, but its very nice all the same. wine yeast definitely adds something different too.

(dark)rubey red. To me it tasted a little sweet from the wine yeast and 10.5% with the aftertaste being a smooth litly done caramel taste. I couldn’t taste the burnt malts and the coffee much if I even did like the case say’s on it aBOIUT IT.

Already rated by half the users, but I’d be remiss not to throw in my two cents. What a beer this is...really more of an Abt ale in concept an execution. Smells like a yeasty wine. Deep orange-brown with a ton of suspension. Alcohol has a strong presence, but it is moderated by sweetness and some hop character. Also very creative graphic and bottle designs.

Growler togo poured creamy dark brown with a thick white head. Aromas of sweet carmel and toffee also a heavy yeasty aroma. Flavor is a bit layerd with brown sugar and burnt sugar up front some maltyness and a very bready and doughy taste. Body is thick and creamy finish is smooth

What is it about Belgian Strong Ales that keeps me coming back? In this case, its the unique blend of sweetness, yeastiness, and hops.
