voota (754), Melbourne, Australia Dec 4, 2006 Pours a fairly murky brown with a bubbly off-white head, showing good retention and lace. Sweet malty caramel aroma, a little dusty and yeasty too. Decent full body, flavours of spice fruit and caramel, some light yeast too... the finish is warming and pretty sweet. Pretty solid, loved the alcohol spice in the finish too.
SuperDave70 (831), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 11, 2008 Pours a deep reddish-brown with a lasting foamy head. Aroma of sweet malt, sugar, dark ripe fruit, alcohol and a touch of hops. Flavor is big, sweet, fruity and finishes with a touch of sour citrus and a nice alcohol bite. A little thin for a quad, but still a solid brew. Enjoyable. Derek881 (349), Frederick, Maryland, USA Oct 9, 2008 Poured from the bottle into a trappist glass to drink. The aroma was a blend of some dense fruits, maybe cherry and plum, with some earthy hops, a toffee effect, and a yeast character too. A dark, opaque, rusted copper color with a minimal bubbly off-white head that was quickly gone. Nicely mixed taste, with the sweet-bitter fruits, a slight cherry effect, and a modest sourness too. Very lively and fizzy on the palate, with an active mouthfeel and light alcohol-induced burn. Slightly thin and watery, but very busy in the mouth. A very high quality beer, with a masterfully-controlled high alcohol content. jefcon (850), Arlington, Virginia, USA Oct 9, 2008 Deep purple in the glass with a persistent head that’s just off-white and medium-bead. Aromas drift up, cherries, dates, plums, candi sugar and caramel. A nice mellow malty palate is balanced out by some lemony, herbal acidity. There is some vinuous grape and orange, too, and some yeasty spice on the finish. I am duly impressed with this beer -- one I had never tried before. Hides its alcohol tremendously well. asheft (979), Marburg, Germany Oct 8, 2008 [on tap at EBF 2008]
Fruity aroma that may be a bit sour--almost like white wine. Almost clear copper with a lacy, thin cover. Fruity and sugary flavour with white grape, cherry and orange juice notes. Ethanol at the end along with some bitterness. Medium body, moderate carbonation, nutty finish. Caleb1035 (33), , North Carolina, USA Oct 6, 2008 33 cl bottle poured to trappist glass with amber/brown body and thin caramel colored head that slowly dissipates. Aroma is malt and figs. The taste is sweet with surprisingly thin mouth-feel. Slight alcohol aftertaste that warms the belly. Overall an excellent beer (don’t chill it too much)
