frankenkitty (1789), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA May 14, 2005 I first tasted Gulden Draak in December 2004 and have been looking forward to another sample. Bottle poured as a dense, thick vermillion/red/brown with an incredibly sized, creamy/rocky, tan head that retained nicely. So many elements to the aroma, which all played so well off each another: sweet Maraschino cherries, honey, fresh-baked muffins, scotch and cinnamon. Intense sweetness in flavor showcasing tremendous malts, apple-sourness and fusels that fill the sinuses. Spicy aftertaste with a slick palate that was both syrupy and creamy. The only drawback to the entire beer was an alcohol-induced dryness that cut the experience too short. The mysterious white bottle and golden Viking ship logo only add to it’s appeal. Incredible.

mmm///beer (546), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 4, 2008 11.2 oz bottle in trade from mar-thank you! Served in trappist glass- poured brownish amber with copper tints, low-medium carbonation, clump of off tan bubbles in the middle for a head, some spotting lacing. Aroma of alcohol, brown sugar, and figs. Hits the mouth with a well defined medium body, very sticky throughout, tons of flavors ranging from candy sugar to hardwood to allspice, finish lingers around until you take another sip. It’s not Westy 12, but it’s real close... KyotoLefty (113), Kyoto, Japan Sep 1, 2008 Dark reddish brown, huge tan head. Enticing aroma of fruit, spice, whiskey, figs, caramel. Huge flavor of caramel/molasses, figs, spices, maple syrup. The aroma is just a bit too faint, but the flavor is great. Slightly lighter in body than I expected. cbkschubert (1573), Skyline, Arizona, USA Aug 31, 2008 33 cl bottle - Pours a deep amber color with a 3/4 finger thick off white head that faded somewhat quickly for a Belgian ale. Very light lacing. Aroma is mainly esters, light malt and alcohol. Well, flavor is much of the same. I think the alcohol detracts from this beer. Medium body. A decent beer. ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 29, 2008 Poured deep ruby red with a nice, long lasting tan head. Lightly roasty and mostly chocolate malts with a hint of brett. Soft and thick palate - reminded me of a chocolate milkshake! The finish was full of dark sugar and warming alcohol. Overall this beer is a little too hot Damico (50), Norristown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 17, 2008 This quadrupel looks more like a thick stout than an ale because of its rich, dark, motor oil color. The thick creamy taste also give the impression of a stout. This is smooth and delicious, especially on tap in the correct 10.5 oz glass/sifter.
