Sweet, a bit grainy. A fine sourness that balances a bit, but it comes across as a tit too toffee sweet. Vinous, warming. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

A good sipping beer on a winters night. It poured a large sized tan head that was creamy and frothy with fine-medium sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. The body was hazy and carbonated with a tea hue. The nose was that of alcohol, caramel, malt, cherries, and plums. The flavor was malty, alcohol and fruitiness. The mouthfeel was rich and it had a bit of a burning sensation to it. This was a full bodied beer with fair lacing. An exellent BSA in my opinion. TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA

Very dark brown with hints of red. Spiced with caramel-ish, choclate tastes. Strong taste of alcohol is evident but not surprising. Sugary as well. Tastes great after it has been aged. HIGHLY recommended to Belgian beer lovers or strong beer lovers. RichardGretton (3166), Leicestershire, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2003 Big frothy head from this beer with a malt and strongly fortified aroma. The flavour mainly resembles that of a spirit with no complexity. Overall a difficult to drink beer owing to the sharpness of the alcohol content. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Combination of the dark chestnut pour, frothy mocha head, thick lacing, and the painted white bottle earn this one a 5 for appearance. Sweet, molases like aroma with some nutty notes and a hint of chocolate. Delectable flavor, with chocolate, caramel, brandy and molasses all dancing around on the tongue. Excellent, creamy thick mouthfeel. Overall, a winner. Best Belgian I have had in a while. ogivlado (3108), Zagreb, Croatia

Aroma began with a fruity pear, moved on to deliver icing-sugar sweetness and ended with a musty leathery yeastiness. The taste was rich, dark-fruited, alcoholic and warming, with a good bitter ending. It’s like liquid Christmas cake. Utterly wonderful.
